Dog-in-Costume Absurdity (warning - pic heavy post)

Yes, these are all actual Halloween costumes you can buy for your dog. Crazy, right?

http://img.costumecraze.com/images/v...50513-main.jpg
http://www.muttropolis.com/prodimage...-DEFAULT-m.jpg
(that dog looks TERRIFIED...like "Really? You are taking a picture of me in this costume? Really?)
http://img.costumecraze.com/images/v...50109-main.jpg
http://img.costumecraze.com/images/v...38009-main.jpg
(anyone else thinks that dog looks just about ready to go for the throat?)
http://img.costumecraze.com/images/v...50101-main.jpg
(this comes from a whole collection - so if Princess Leia dog is more your style, or Darth Vader dog, you're covered).

And the "Are you freaking kidding me?" award goes to:

I have one of these dogs, and they smile like that all the time! It is their way to show they are happy.

Yes I kinda agree that dog costumes are silly, but I dunno... I didnt buy one for my dog but would if I saw a good one. I did get her a halloween shirt to answer the door with tho.

Some people do go too far... buts its all in good fun. Thanks for sharing, i think these are cute!

mandalinn82 10-20-2006 03:10 PM

Its absurd-cute.

sotypical 10-20-2006 03:13 PM

see my keiko smiles like that too (any excuse to post a pic of her, haha)

Jaz dressed up to go to one of those dog Halloween costume contests at PetSmart a few years ago. She didn't win anything. :( I think she totally should have! She was a Cowgirl-Cowdog (she's an Australian Cattle Dog). She had chaps and a hat and even a lasso! Anyway, here are a couple of not-great pictures of her in her costume. I never could get her to pose very good...she was too interested in all the other crazy dogs in their costumes. :) I thought she was super cute though! And, I totally thought she and the Sonny (Shih Tzu in a wig!) & Cher (Doberman Pincher in a wig!) dogs should have won!!!

(And, yes... she is in fact standing on my mom's toes in BOTH shots. LOL)

:D

P.S. Keiko is super cute, as usual! :D

mandalinn82 10-20-2006 03:18 PM

But her eyes are different than the tiki dog! She actually looks like she's smiling...he actually looks like he's a little crazy.

haha thats true, he probably is! lol - he could be in a devil costume

MomToKaylaAndTwins 10-20-2006 03:27 PM

It would be absurd....
Except I just bought the princess one for my Pit Bull yesterday on Ebay.
$12.00 and it matches my 2 legged daughter's costume.
I love it!
I guess it takes a real dog lover to understand....

mandalinn82 10-20-2006 03:30 PM

I'm a dog lover and not anti-costume. Something about these pictures just struck me as funny...especially the expressions on the dogs faces, more than the costumes themselves.

People dressing up their dogs this year should post pics here! I want to see!

Tisha___ 10-20-2006 03:31 PM

Which princess one? The one the Chihuahua is wearing, or the one the Poodle is wearing?

mandalinn82 10-20-2006 04:05 PM

Oh, they DO match. Thats freaking adorable!

sotypical 10-20-2006 04:17 PM

Now I really want to dress my dog up... but there is no where good around here to get dog costumes and a little late to order off the net. Plus, we are staying home this year, haha

Rosario 10-20-2006 04:22 PM

Tisha___ 10-20-2006 04:36 PM

LOL That's cute. You'll have to post pics of Keiko in her sweater.

I just saw this too... Halloween's not just for the dogs...

Don't step on the guin-bee pig

that is so freakin cute!!!

Indychick829 10-20-2006 08:58 PM

ok, i will admit that SOME of these are cute - but we were talking about this at work - everyone i work with either has a dog or a cat...and Melissa, the dog lover - her favorite quote - whenever she sees costumes on dogs - and i must say i agree...
"This is why dogs bite people"...

although - admittedly, SOME are cute...

drake3272004 10-20-2006 09:04 PM

Well, I don't have any dogs (yet), but we are working on our ferrets' costumes........here is Feesha in her angel costume, we now have a ladybug one for Nala but haven't been able to get pics yet. We have 2 boys also, but we are not sure what to dress them up as.

hmmmmmm i wonder if that will fit my Bunbun...... she's only a bit bigger than a large guinnea pig....

lol I'm gonna see if i can find her a halloween costume...hmmmmmmmmmm :D

I love pets in costumes! most pets don't seem to mind.... too much.... some don't even seem to know they are wearing them lol.

Hale_Mary 10-22-2006 01:19 PM

Very cute.

Now trying doing that to a cat.

http://i3.tinypic.com/15mfhw0.jpg

It's funny to try and dress up a cat. It's so obvious by the expression on their face that they are planning to hurt someone for it.

DebbieII 10-22-2006 05:22 PM

For some cute cat pictures go to http://stuffonmycat.com

almostheaven 10-22-2006 10:18 PM

I got a pic of my old hampster...somewhere. I created a small red Santa hat and taped it to his head, then held him in my hand with a red cloth draped over him and snapped with the other hand. No animal is too small. LOL

You guys have the worlds cutest pets!

I have two cats. I wouldn't dress them up, unless in planned on losing an eye. Possibly a limb.

maegdaeien 10-29-2006 01:23 PM

Holy crap, Keiko is an obnoxiously adorable Boston! I love her jammies!

The thing about pets in costumes is that they have to have practically no dignity to begin with. Funny-looking dog + costume = hilarity! Like these guys:
