A Cincinnati Favorite

Locals know what this really means, but to an outsider... well, see for yourself:

OH! You've just made me very hungry! I used to work at a Goldstar and there are none in Indiana! I miss my Cincinnati Chili so much that we drive down to Indianapolis (2 hour drive) once a year so I can have my fix!

I couldn't handle that! Once a year? I go to skyline once a week! Hehe, sorry for making you hungry :-P

Hehe I haven't thought about Skyline Chili since... well, since I left Cincinnati! Thanks for the memories. And funny, funny sign  .

No problem! I totally agree Nothing Says Love like me and my hubby driving for 2 hours for a 3-Way!!

I was born in Cleveland and was practically raised on Skyline Chilli. Eating there was always the highlight of going back when I was visiting relatives after we moved away. I was glad when they opened some more restaurants in other areas of the midwest (I lived in both Michigan and Indiana). Unfortunately, there are none to be found on the east coast. I haven't had Skyline since last May. :(

There is a Skyline Chili restaurant in Muncie, which is about 40 minutes away from Indianapolis. I don't know if that would be closer for you though.

AmberM 03-11-2006 09:32 AM

OH, really? I didn't know that. It's a bit closer...not much...hmmm....My cousins used to live there but that was....wow...17 years ago? I'm sure things have changed a bit since then, huh??
I just try to survive on my frozen for my main munchies. But it's just not the same, ya know?
Thanks!
Amber

Being from California I have never had Cincinnati chili ~~ I googled it though and saw that you can buy cans of the Skyline Chili on line for those of you needing a fix! What is so good about it? Why is it different?

ashliebelle 03-12-2006 11:39 PM

It's a beanless chili that's not as spicy as regular chili and it's usually served on top of either spaghetti, a hot dog, or fries and then topped with cheese. It's rarely eaten alone - it's like a mild chili with the texture of a very thick spaghetti sauce (or like curry, I've also heard).

3-way = spaghetti, chili, cheese
cheese coney = mini hot dog, chili, cheese
5-way = spaghetti, chlili, cheese, onions, beans

Mmmm, I'm glad we have Skyline tuesdays at work, so I get my fix once a week :-D

oh mannnn... love that Skyline Chili!!
I do have to indulge once in a while and run up to Indy to get it. The frozen isn't too bad, the canned doesn't seem as good. Although.. I have learned how to make it myself and can control the fat etc a bit more. That way, you can use a bit lower fat beef .... LOOOOVE it!! what a great pic!
