Murphy's First Law for Wives: If you ask your husband to pick up five items at the store and then you add one more as an afterthought, he will forget two of the first five.

wait- how'd you get your husband to go to the store for you?! lol.

even if you have a list!! why??!?!

Circebee 09-17-2008 10:21 AM

Wow! I thought that this was just my DH! He gets a crazed look in his eyes when I reach item number five and says "STOP! STOP! I need a pen! It's more than five things!" And, yes, he does all of the food shopping and cooking. I work super long hours, and he loves to cook (healthy stuff, too), so I am a very lucky gal.

Mine only grills... which is great in the summer... Lol. He despises any kind of shopping... I usually tell him we're going to Lowes... Go there and then go straight to the supermarkets. To be fair though, he can grill amazingly!

I guess I'm a guy and didn't know it.

OH heck. That's nothing. Give him a list of 5 things to get and he comes back with 2 of the 5, and then 3 more bags of things that he saw and "looked good".

*guys* What can you do with 'em! :)

We fixed that - If we need more than 1 or 2 things we go to the store together. He takes his own cart and I take mine. Then we meet up, do a shopping cart merger to weed out possible duplicates (almost never happens ) and head for the checkout line......

This is sooooo my DH, but it doesn't just ring true with shopping. It is usually with anything. He always calls me and says "Now what was it that you wanted, because they only have (this). " and usually that is what i said in the first place. Some of our major fights are because i am constantly the only one that remembers anything and get tired of repeating myself 2o times. lol.

I remember asking DH a while back - do you know what we say to each other more than I love you? He said "what?". I said that's right. ;)

I'm the one who has to make a list as soon as there's more than 2 things.

DH assigned himself going to the store (Sam's) today, came up with his own list of four items, and bought all of them. And we're not talking fun stuff, it was organic lettuce, grapefruit, feta cheese, uuhhmm - and something else :o I can't remember what it was - don't have a list. Course they were all things HE wanted.

Actually here's what my husband used to be the worst for ... he'd *forget* what I'd told him to get and tell me they were out if it instead. (And mind you, this was usually an emergency run where I was in the middle of making something and didn't realize I was missing a key ingredient or didn't have as much as I thought I did - so I'd send him running to the store.)

For example, one time I sent him to the store for mayo. I was making potato salad for a party and needed it NOW. He also was going to pick up 4 or 5 other things for the party. He came back and had everything EXCEPT the mayo. But instead of saying "I forgot. I'll go get it." He said "Honey, I swear I looked everywhere, but the store was out of mayo!"

He did it with butter one time.
He did it with shampoo one time.

And honestly if he'd done it with some kind of odd ingredient, I wouldn't have been nearly as upset at the time. At least "I couldn't find it" works for a jar of wasabi or something like that. But mayo? Butter?????

Of course now, in retrospect, it's kinda funny and we've laughed about it. AT the time I was always furious.

That was great! I just said that to dh and he laughed because it's spot on.

I'm pretty lucky; dh does the grocery shopping and the cooking. But he still forgets what I ask for.
