Beans?

I have an older version of the program so I'm not sure if the starches changed or not. (doing it on my own and at home, due to finances)

Are we allowed any beans? And if so, what are they considered? I'm thinking it would naturally be a starch.

I love black beans. They are such a wonderful source of fiber and protein.

Anyone have an idea?

Many, many thanks in advance!

Beans are under the vegetarian protein list-2 cups cooked=1 protein. Wouldn't eat them too often though-since they are pretty starchy . . . .Just see how your WL progresses . . .

Thanks!

Eryca - Morning star has a wonderful black bean burger. 2 patties is 1 protein and yummy! I love it on 1/2 tortilla with tomato and ff white cheese.

In my gold and blue books, 1 cup cooked beans = 1 veg protein. On purple plan, you get 2 cups.

Forgot that the proteins would be different on the different colors. Red plan=2 cups.

yum, Morning Star products! I have to say Ihaven't been disappointed by them yet, so I must try those. =)

Thanks, everyone!!

Juli & Joni, do you use canned beans? I like beans and would not mind having some for lunch as my protein but I can't see making them from scratch just for 1 c.

juliemarie 12-11-2006 04:16 PM

When I have beans-I use no fat refried beans for my taco salads . . .

Joni135 12-11-2006 05:42 PM

The plan books clearly say to "avoid all canned vegetables; even low-sodium" but in all honesty, I do use the canned variety when I eat beans (which is really rare). I use canned kidney beans in my chili; I think that's the only beans I've had since starting the program.

juliemarie 12-11-2006 05:53 PM

Well-I'm sure as heck not gonna soak beans and cook them just for me. So-I have a little extra sodium. Big deal. Salt doesn't make you fat. The water goes away eventually . . .

But I don't eat them very often-couple times a month maybe.

juliemarie 12-11-2006 05:57 PM

Hmm-chili sounds good. Maybe I'll use my allotment of canned beans to make that this month . . .

Joni135 12-11-2006 05:58 PM

"salt doesn't make you fat..."
Amen to that!

Candiflip 12-11-2006 05:58 PM

Thanks for your responses!
I had to call my center today anyway so I asked them too and she said canned was fine just rinse. She forgot the name brand up here that would be best maybe one of the girls will know when I go in on friday. But if I go to safeway before then I will just look on the can for the lowest sodium.

It's funny how different centers give different answers. My answer to the question of canned beans was absolutly no. They say to cook dried beans. Canned beans have too much sodium. I'm like most of you. I use canned beans with low sodium and rinse them. I am at my goal so It didn't hurt me too much.
