Bar Food Substitutes - Need suggestions

  • OK girls...

With football season here, Sundays just got a little more challenging around the house. We have the NFL Ticket, so we watch at home, but we often have people over. I am known for my cooking, especially the appetizers. I don't mind cooking them for everyone else, but I need to have a substitute (which is why I came up with the BBQ Pitza). But I need your help. It just doesn't seem right to be eating a salad while watching football.

If anyone has any recipes that they can revamp for the good stuff and the appetizers that you would get when you're out at a sports bar, or even any other good apps, please post in the appetizer thread.

    Thanks!!!!
  • You could do crab toppers

Mixed crab meat and rf cheddar cheese melt that the microwave so it become a spread and then put it on english muffins. Broil them for about 15 minutes in the oven. These are a big hit. Cut them into 1/4.

You could also make toasted pita or tortilla chips. There is a carb ender for nachos in the purple book.
  • YUM--the crab toppers sounds great!

Cassi--I am NO help!! I am hoping to get some ideas from this post too!
  • I say to heck with your reputation and serve up some crudite!! My COD posted a 5 layer dip on their bulletin board today that looked tasty. They said it was in the cookbook. Do you have the book? If not, I'll post a couple from there.
  • I have it, and I made it for lunch last week, actually! It was yummy.

    Keep the ideas coming!

... but crudite just doesn't seem like football food!!!
  • Cassi - I'll do some research around here - there's bound to be plenty of recipes for appetizers. I just didn't think to look at that section when I was posting recipes!
My gang enjoys white chicken chili and that's pretty much on LAWL. Anyway, I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Got to leave for church, we're doing live praise and worship tonight because of a guest speaker.
    Hang on!
  • How about finger size veggies with some lf yogurt dip sweetened with Splenda?
  • Cassi - A couple suggestions:

you can "tailgate" in your own yard, and make hamburgers (LAWL friendly of course) -- BBQ Cheddar Burger, Mushroom & Swiss Burger

    BBQ Hamburgers in the crockpot
    LAWL Veal Goulash
    LAWL Buffalo Chicken Tenders
  • I came up with baked mozzarella nuggets too.

Take a string cheese and cut it into 1" pieces.
Dip in egg substitute and then roll in LAWL breadcrumbs.
Bake at 400 for probably 7 minutes.

I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS YET! I am still in the experimental stage. When I have it worked out, I will post.
