Subsitute for LAWL soup mix?
I am sitting here looking through the cook book, and I found a soup I want to try, but I dont want to get the lawl soup mix. Are there any good substitutes? The recipie calls for the cream of chicken soup mix.

Jamie, I don't know how this would work as a substitute for the LA soup mix, but you could try this - I posted it a long while back on the recipe thread:

The difference with the LAWL soup mix is that they add the soy protein so it counts as a lite. I originally bought the cup a soup cream of chicken and then compared it with the LAWL. I ended up buying the LAWL since it was counted in my purchase of 20 boxes of lites.

You know I compeltely forgot that it counted towards my lites. Geez brain fart..lol. I am just goona get some tomorrow, cause I pre bought a bunch. lol

Cassi or Jamie - so, is the soup (by itself) any good? So far I do like a couple of the LA Lite bars, but not too fond of the drink mix (berry). Curious how the soups are? It's too hot to even think about soup right now!

According to the LAWL dietician you can use the canned cr of mushroom soup, in moderation. The count is 1/2 cup soup = 1/2 veggie. I don't know what the cr. of chicken soup would count as. I hope this helps some.

well I havent ate it by it self, just used it in a recipie. But it turned out really yummy.

Joni-I personally don't like any of the powdered lites by themselves. The soups I use like canned soup for meat and veggies. I usually mix it with 1/2 the water or milk and add 1 T. ff sour cream. Yummy over chicken and veggies. The drink mixes, I blend with fruit, add a little milk or ff 1/2 and 1/2 with frozen fruit and it's like sherbert. I always make smoothies with the shake mixes, makes a thick shake like smoothie.

Oh, I forgot about the cafe au lait and the hot chocolate. I like mocha's so I mix both with coffee. The hot chocolate isn't to bad all by itself but mixed with milk instead of water. I think I might try mixing the chocolate shake mix and a cafe au lait with some milk and ice for a shake and see what that tastes like, maybe add some SF chocolate sauce too..topped with ff cool whip...hmmmmm.............

I don't like the soup mixes by themselves-but the chicken soup mixed with about 1/2 the water and spread over chicken and then baked is really good. The leftover sauce is good over the brown rice I usually serve with it too.

I've never compared the two because I don't do the lites, but I have substituted low fat/low sodium Campbell's soup mixes in recipes before. I would definitely say that full fat/full sodium tastes MUCH better, but doctoring the low fat/low sodium stuff up isn't too bad.
