Beanie- Yeah I've been writing things down on post it notes and now my desk area is a post it note graveyard. I don't even remember half of them and there's no organization to it. I read something and think "Hey that's fantastic!" scribble it down and that's probably where it ends. Once I started thinking about it, all kinds of neat ideas popped up into my head. As an alternative to printing it out and sending it to people, setting it up as a pdf or word document where the recipes are page long, maybe with alternatives and adjustments to recipes that people have mentioned along all the recipes in a print out format that prints them on 3 x 5 cards so you can make your own recipe index. Updates and additions to it could be emailed or posted here in Newsletter fashion like what Katie did for her family.

And how about all the new people that come in and are overwehlmed by the vast amount of information we have in experience, stuff that the center can't necessarily give. I bet new people would find it a relief to have the experience, wisdom and tricks of people who've already done it.

I'm a very do it yourself, creative, project sort of person. I live for this kind of thinking.

Sommer I think the pdf format would be great then people could just print it off and there would be no cost to you for printing or shipping. People could print it of and put in a binder thats easy enough. I still think the idea is super!! Let me know what I can do.

Sommer what a great idea. I know I don't even look in that thread any longer has it's kind of hard to locate what you want. I can only wonder how a new person to this site feels. Thanks for wanting to do this. Let us know what you would like us to help with.

As I stated before-if anything needs to be done to the LAWL recipe thread, or anything else along those lines-things deleted/stickied/reworked, that is what I am here for. If anyone is unhappy with the recipe thread and wants something changed or redone-or started over, for that matter-I would be happy to do it.

I also wanted to add in that I wasn't implying that you planned on selling the cookbook. I just wanted to make clear as well, as another person did on this thread, that you have to be really careful as well about passing out copyrighted recipes, etc. as well that legally belong to LAWL.

Rather than having it in a file that someone has to send to every newbie that wants it-if someone would like to email me the recipes and information, I can make a sticky for them here on the forum-even in different categories, and make it so that no one can post on the thread. This way it would stay recipes only or tips only or what have you...and no one could start conversations or chit chat and get things off track. If a new recipe or tip or something needed to be added, I could go in and add it.

I just think it would be a lot easier for the new people to utilize the information this way. :)

Aphil I think that would be a great idea to have an area where we can only post recipes and if we wanted to share what we thought about one we could start a new thread to say what we tried and what we thought about it etc. It's a great thread if you time to weed though all the pages or try searching. Thanks for the ideas and suggestions.

I will take a look at the current recipe thread and take some notes...see what can be done to help. If anyone has some recipes that they came up with that they would like to add that they have not posted on the thread-pm them to me, and I will get them up there after the reworking of that area.
It will take a while to do...but I think I can make a more organized format for the area.

Aphil--thanks for taking the time to help out. I'm sure it's a mess! Having it more organized will help the new and old alike--thanks!

Thanks to all who could make the recipe site easier to use. I would also like to print off my own Sommer if that happens.

It's going to take a while to do, but I am starting by going into the recipe thread and deleting all posts that are just "chat" and not recipes, or answers to questions about the recipes.

If any of you go into the thread right now, it is going to "sound" a little funny, simply because I am just skimming through and randomly deleting those posts. ;) I just deleted for about 20 minutes, and took off about 4-5 pages on the thread. I will do the same thing tomorrow, and try to get it down another few pages. When it is down to only posts with recipes or pertinent information about those recipes, I will start splitting the recipes up into categories-main courses, desserts, etc. and work through it all from there.

Hopefully soon it can all be cleaned up, and the thread will be converted into a few "recipe only" threads-with no chat in them. With all of the talking and posting-it makes it way too hard to "find" a particular recipe-especially since an hour ago that thread was about 50 pages long.

It will get better...and I will keep you all updated on the progress. :)

Wow Aphil-Thanks!

This will be a great improvement to the Recipe thread! Look forward to seeing it. Make sure Baby #3 stays all warm and comfy until you get this done...haha.

Thanks aphil for doing this. We all know it's a lot of work and appriciate you making the recipe thread a lot more user friendly.

And thanks to you too Sommer for mentioning wanting to do a recipe book of sorts. Looks like you got the ball rolling to make the recipe thread user friendly too.

Boo'sMom 07-18-2006 05:07 PM

Aphil--thanks again--we all appreciate what you are doing and you just taking time out of your day to help us out.

I already have a LAWL recipe document in Word so I love to just copy recipes I want to try then paste them into my word file--then if I like it I keep it--if not--it goes to the trash bin so all the recipes in the file are ones I would make again.
