There is just an endless number of things we can do with these pita pockets but I had a chicken club pizza pita this weekend and it was great. I made my pizza sauce per Katies suggestion and then i added mushrooms, onions, chicken (cut into bite size chunks), cheese and a few bacon bits and cooked them on my george forman yummmmyyyyy.

Geez, I think I've started a new addiction - going to have to try that chicken pizza pita - how did you make the sauce - this is something I'm unsure of to stay OP

I do it two different ways. Always use low sodium tomato sauce. I either stir in garlic powder and some italian seasonings, or stir in this stuff called pizza seasoning that I bought in the bulk herbs and spices at the grocery store. The pizza seasoning is better, really spicy.

PURPLEPIRATE99 01-16-2006 11:16 AM

I guess what I'm confused on is the low sodium tomato sauce - is this just like the tomato paste in the cans or what? I looked for low sodium marinara and can't seem to locate any - the lowest sodium I found was 440???

oh, and can you use turkey pepparoni?

Repo girl 01-16-2006 11:19 AM

No, it should just be with the regular tomato sauce in the tiny cans that are about 4 for a dollar. Compare the regular to the low sodium. You will be astounded at the difference.

Thanks Repo - that solves one of my many mysteries!!! Glad I didn't get any while I was shopping this weekend!!!

hi new here, and all this pita stuff sounds so good!! what type of pitas do you buy? and can you give me the recipie for the egg/sausage breakfast pita???

Repo girl 01-26-2006 01:02 PM

I buy the whole wheat Kangaroo pockets at Wal Mart. They are pre split, so really easy to use. I usually just use 1 egg, scrambled in the microwave with 1 wedge of laughing cow lite cheese, stuffed into a pita toasted in the toaster. (1/2D, 1/2 P,S) You can use morning star farms sausage patties, but I am not sure how people are counting them.

I've been counting 2 patties as 1 protein.

Heather- Yeah, the possibilies are endless! I made hummus today and cut a pita into wedges, and baked in the oven for pita chips. That too, was really good. Check out the recipe thread for pita pizza.
