Interesting, I didn't know about that website, although personally I would not want to hand my health information to the govt. I've just been using the standard pyramid.
Besides limiting my servings I also only eat
nutrient-rich foods now, like whole grain breads and raw vegetables. Just doing that reduced my hunger and I no longer stuff myself. I avoid addictive foods too, like chocolate.
Turns out most of my craving was due to eating
nutrient-poor foods like Coca-cola, white bread and pasta, plus eating way too much carbs. 80% of my calories were carbs when it should be 40-65%. Since I restored balance to my diet I've felt better and lost fat.
I'm using a free program on my phone to track my intake, see mangia.tk, which lets me keep track on a daily basis what I eat wherever I am, but it's not strictly necessary. I can keep count of my servings on paper, too.
