H C G

  • HEY all...how are all the chickadees. Awesome. My mom sent me a write-up about a diet her friend is on involving something called "Human Chorionic Gonadotropin" or HCG. It claims to be a naturally occuring something or another derived from pregnant womens PEE . Supposedly it makes your body use up it's fat stores(pot belly, thick hips, flabby arms) while NOT attacking your lean muscle. The plan has you gorge yourself for 2 days on high fat, sugary, oily, BAD BAD BAD foods...then you start a diet eating only 500 calories a day and taking drops or shots of the HCG. You can't take in ANY fat. Not through eating and not through any other way. You have to monitor what lotion, make-up,lip balm,SOAP, DEODORANT,etc. you use, because it cannot contain any fat or oils...
When i first all this I was like what an unhealthy crock...but my mother claims the lady at her job looks great and lost about 65 pounds in 5 months...

Anybody got thoughts/info on this new thing...my mom really wants me to give it a go...i'm quite comfy with my south beach diet
  • psst. take a look at the sticky at the top of the page. the one labeled: "We do not support HCG injections and plans."
  • I knew it was something WHACK!!! thanks
  • Stick to what is working for u and that u are comfortable with!!!
  • The Dr. Bernstein's plan is verrrrry similar to the HCG plan. They claim that you're eating 800-1000 calories a day, but when I totaled up what I ate on Sparkpeople.com, I was only getting 550 calories :O (I'm off Dr. Bernstein's now, and doing my own thing)

I've read as well that on the maintenance plan (what you eat for the rest of you're life), you only get 1200 calories...
  • By the way.... when I was on the Bernstein's plan, even though I was getting injections (Vitamins B6 & B12), I often felt very, very weak and tired. I had no energy to do anything .... that's essentially why I went off the plan
  • Quote: You have to monitor what lotion, make-up,lip balm,SOAP, DEODORANT,etc. you use, because it cannot contain any fat or oils...
I don't know anything about this plan. I'm counting calories and moving my a$$.

However, I had to comment because this is the most insane thing I've ever read in my life. What amazing crap!
  • I KNOW! The plan and "drug" is mad expensive on it's own...then add in the fact u gotta find and pay for oil-free,fat-free toiletries....RIDICULOUS!!!! I'm also not fond of the idea of injecting myself with preganant urine
  • I work with several people (in the health care field mind you) that are not having success with this plan. Lots of complaints of hunger and irritability. Does not appeal to me at all!
  • My husband and I are on this diet and are having success with it so far. We did NOT have to get any oil-free,fat-free toiletries (haven't had to alter the products we use at all) and I did not have to give up my daily fish oil supplement. As far as cost is concerned, it was significantly less expensive than LA Weight Loss to get started and, since we pay for the shots as we go, we won't have to worry about the clinic closing without giving us what we paid for. The diet is low carb, low fat supplemented by protein shakes, and comes in at 850-1250 calories per day. Medically supervised by a naturopath. We did our research beforehand and made an informed decision to try it. So far we're glad we did.
  • Quite honestly, you are going to lose a lot of weight eating 500 calories a day no matter what deodorant you use, or if you are getting injections or not. It's called starving yourself.

My mother did a plan like this a few years ago, and I warned her against it, but she wouldn't listen. She ended up losing some, but felt horrible and ill during the process, and she DID gain it back.
  • Aphil, I agree. There were actually studies done comparing the HCG diet to one of just 500 calories without the HCH and both lost the same amount of weight. It was still starvation.

As seagirl pointed out, we don't offer support of this type of diet plan so I'm closing the thread. Thanks
