Blood Sugar Dips?
I've been eating around 1300-1400 calories a day. This has worked pretty well and for the most part I'm content. The problem is that lately (this past week) I've been getting low blood sugar in the afternoons which makes me ravenous, even with my planned snacks. Some days I tough it out but on others I end up eating 100-200 more calories than I should. This is making me wonder if I should increase my calories. It just seems a little odd because for a month or so previous I was happy with the 1400 limit.
So, what should I do? In case you're wondering, a sample menu is below. I've added a few options to show what I'm eating if I'm low or high with my calorie count for the day. Breakfast- Protein shake with 1/2 cup berries, 1/4 cup yogurt, 1/2 banana. Makes 2 glasses and I have one early am and then one around 10ish (totals around 400 cal). Lunch- Ham, low fat ricotta and salad sandwich on low GI multi-grain bread (around 300-350 depending on what I put on it). Snack- Pear and 1/4 cup mixed nuts (250ish) Snack- Protein bar or vegi bits and low fat cottage cheese/natural peanut butter (max 150) Dinner- Chicken breast/salmon/lean beef, steamed veg/stir-fry veg, rice/pasta/potato (300-400).
