Question???? is it 78 calories???? Or is it 78 FAT calories? isn't there a difference? sorry, my brain gets slower by friday....
|
Okay....
78 total calories, and 78 fat calories....because alli is only removing calories that are fat. Calories from food are basically broken down into three types: protein, carbohydrates, and fat. I think that where you are getting confused, is seeing the term "fat calories" on nutrition labels. If you have a nutrition label, and for example's sake, we'll say it is a cracker box. On that box it might say: Per serving: 120 calories 3 grams fat 2 grams protein 21 grams carbohydrates The box might ALSO say (somewhere around the calories/fat part) 27 fat calories or 27 calories from fat This is basically telling you that out of the 120 calories in the serving of crackers, that 27 of those calories are from FAT. If you do the math accordingly, it all adds up. One gram of fat equals 9 calories...so if the food item you are eating has 3 grams of fat, then 27 of the calories (9x3) are from fat. A calorie is a calorie...the term "fat calories" is a term used to show you exactly how many calories in the food are from fat. For further reference, a gram of protein has 4 calories...and a gram of carbohydrates also has 4 calories. So, if you look at my example and do the math, the totals of the fat, protein, and carb grams will add up to the 120 calories. It is really just a simple food breakdown...since many foods have some of each-fat, carbs, and proteins in them. |
Guys, you are so cute with all the calories and all the math you are doing. it is true.....it does not matter if the calories comes from fat, protein, carbs and so on......the only difference is that 1g of fat has more calories than 1 gr of protein. So it is easy to pack up a lot of fat from eating fatty foods, than from eating a lean meal.
Regarding the Alli, I really don't know what to say. I do not eat too much fat, so I do not know if this is good foe me or not. The only time I have seen some signs of fat in my stool, was when I had that slice of pizza. After that, nothing! I started exercising and I burn about 500 calories in 50 minutes. Today I did not feel too good. After 30 minutes I felt dizzy, I felt without energy. I went to take a shower and I felt better. I really don't know what to think about Alli...... I will keep you posted. |
I went into my cabinet and i'm looking at 6 months worth of Xenical capsules (which is the prescription strength Alli)......whatotdo,whattodo? sometimes it seems like I just can't make progress....it's discouraging when I eat right, exercise until the cows come home, have a more than active life (I work more than full time and take care of my 89 YO mother and her house)...i'm stressed to the max and i'm lucky if i lost 3 lbs. this month.
then i saw those stupid commercials last night, the first was for Alli, the second one was for a Big Mac! (just smack me)! |
Actually...3 pounds a month is pretty good for someone in the 160's. I have a really, really hard time losing once I get down to 170 pounds. (Starting at over 200 after each of my three babies...)
It seems like once I hit that 170 marker, that I have to really work for each and every ounce... |
Thanks for the encouragement....it's difficult to accept all the changes in my body these days...(menopause on top of the stress, seems to be giving me that abdominal girth that won't go away, its the last place I lose, i've got a good hourglass shape hiding under my fat, i'm only 5'5").
I'm still undecided, but I can always try the Xen. for a week or two and see if they are helpful...i need to get my weight down to prevent type 2, my fasting blood glucose is running high, IR makes it harder to lose also...it's getting tiresome, all this effort for so little... |
My results....
Ok guys, hre goes my results after 2 weeks. I was at 155 when I started with Alli, and now I am at 151. I have lost 4 lbs in two weeks, with lots of cheating. I did experience the bad effects just once, but it was not that bad anyway. I ate some chicken, bought from Jewel, and the second day I had a sandwich with oeanut butter. A few hours later I had a bowel movement and I was shocked.....it looked like I was puting oil into the toilet. I was sure it was the penut butter, but surprise....it was rhe CHICKEN! I had peanut butter yesterday, and nothing happened. I had pizza yesterday, and nothing happened. So, it was the damn chicken! And I had just a little bit. Friday, Saturday and Sunday I ate a lot, and I had a hot dog, a hamburger, red meat-you know, all the bad stuff. I was sure that my scale will go up sky, but no, it went down. :) I think I would have been down to 150 today if I would have not eat the pizza last night. I don't mind losing weight slowly as long as it stays off. Last year I lost weight fast, and I put back 15 in a month or two. Hopefully I will lose at least 10 more pounds until September, before getting pregnant.
Does anyone know anything about Xantrex 3? I bought a bottle last year, and I did not feel very well after taking it. I found it now when I cleaned the room, and I don't know if I should try it again, or not. |
Are you counting the fat grams in the food? Pizza is primarily cheese (and other toppings) which can be high in fat...even lite peanut butter has about 12 grams of fat per serving...as for the red meat, it can be lean, i always use the 90% lean....the chicken may have been fried (i don't know what Jewel is we don't have it in my area).
pretty much if you watch what you are consuming you can avoid the side effects.... |
Its probably not one particular item that gave you the treatment effects but more likely the total fat you consumed that one particular day. I too don't know the type of chicken you described but if its plain meat without skin or any coating then it will be low in fat and not likely to cause effects on it own.

Alli and me
I started taking Alli one year ago, and still take it. Since I have been doing ww simultaneously, I'll never know how I would have done without them. But I've lost 70 lbs, and have had no side effects from the Alli.
That's my testimony, but each of us needs to do what works for her. Here's to all of us! Prufrock  |
The chicken I was talking about had skin, and lot of fat. Spicy hot wings, and breast. :) Any way, I gave up on Alli. Did not work for me. After I lost the 4 pounds, I started having cravings, and in one week I went up to 158 pounds. I put the 4 pounds I lost, plus 3 more. I got so desperate, because like I said before, I want to get pregnant soon, and I do not want to gain 75 pounds as I did with my first pregnancy. My deseperation was so big, that I went back to the doctor to prescribe me Phendimetrazine, and here I am with 5 lost pounds in 4 days. It might not be healthy losing it that fast..... Anyway, I used this medicine before, and lost more than 30 pounds with it, fast, but I did not take care of myself. I was able to keep of the weight for more than 6 months, but I had some peanut butter "issues". :) After 7-8 years of not eating it, suddenly I started to crave it. And I was out of control.....:o

Just took my first Alli about an hr ago, Im hoping it will give me the help i need to keep me on track!

Hi all,
Just another personal experience here. I take Alli when I'm eating a meal that has anything over 6-8 grams of fat. For me, personally, I don't and have never experienced awful/uncontrollable side effects. (HOPE THE FOLLOWING ISNT TOO MUCH INFORMATION!!!) I have, however, seen the results of Alli after using the restroom. And, everytime I see it, I'm grateful that it's gone, and NOT inside my body. I understand tracking the calories/ fat thinking that it doesn't add up to much. Alli doesn't drastically reduce anything. But, practically speaking, I'm glad not only for the calories, but for the pure fat that is not trying to move through my bloodstream and body. I recall reading somewhere that studies are being done because it is possible that Alli *may* be helpful in lowering cholesterol, too. Anyway, for me... Alli is one tool in the bigger picture of this fitness journey. And, since I need all the help I can get, I need to use all the tools at my disposal. Best wishes to each of us as we make these personal decisions! |
I am just starting a long weight loss plan and used Alli first. I already stopped, because it gave me such an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. I think that's what I like best about dieting, is the great, healthy feeling in my stomach. This wasn't nausea or bloating, I can't really describe it. But I didn't lose much at all which in the first few days of a diet didn't make sense to me. I was always nervous i would have the "treatment effects" and I can't have that in the job that I have. BUT...it made me read labels, read fat grams and got me started so I appreciate that part of it!
