For me, 10 lbs is a dress size.

The thing is..you should wear what fits your body. You shouldn't wear what "size" you are. I'm a dancer, and so my legs are solid muscle. I'm typically a size 10. However, there was one pair of pants that I needed a size 14 just to fit my thighs. I guess what I'm trying to say is just worry about what looks good. Don't try to squeeze into a 10 when a 12 looks better. You'll look thinner in the 12. =)

I was wondering the same thing. I guess you can say by the logic stated here that if you are 250-300 pounds it may be as much as 35 pounds to drop a size but it could happen with less. 200-250 perhaps as much as 25 and so on. Thinking of it like that helps me anyways- now I'm not buggin out that I've lost 34 pounds and dropped 36 inches and I've only dropped about 1.5 sizes.

This is definately an interesting conversation. I know personally, my weight can change a lot and my clothing size won't, and then it seems like all of a sudden I drop a size. I totally agree with everyone who said not to be up on the size...yes its great when you can fit into the smaller size, but I'm super excited when my clothes simply look better on!

Dress size is not all about weight but about inches. Weight distribution....muscle vs. fat......exercise to tone the body....It all goes in to it. One thing you can do is take measurements of your chest, waist, hips and thigh. It can show progress and give you a better idea of when you have gone down another dress size.

Once upon a time and minus 40 lbs ago, I worked for WW. One lady told me that she had gained over 20 lbs and was still wearing all the same clothes. I was incredulous. I gain 5 lbs and I'm up a pant size. Like another poster said, it all depends on how/where your body stores excess fat.

That being said, when I worked for WW, they were promoting the concept that losing 10% of your body weight could equal one or two dress sizes.

Ultimately, your clothing size will depend on your body fat composition. Someone who is 135 pounds but don't exercise and eat right maybe a size 8. Their best friend could be 135 pounds, same height, but she eats right and exercises. She most likely won't be a size 8. At that weight, I was personally a size 4-6. I'm 5'5.5". But I did a lot of toning exercises (yoga, Pilates, tai chi) along with a little strength training and a massive amount of cardiovascular exercise.

The key to getting into your size 10 dress by late August is all in your hands. Get plenty cardiovascular exercise, strength train to gain muscle mass (muscle takes up less space than fat) and eat a consistently good diet. You can do it!

Years ago, I went from 196 to 160 and lost 2 sizes - which comes out to roughly 20 lb per size.

However, I've now lost 30 lbs and I've only lost a size.

I support others here who've said the more you have the lose, the bigger the weight loss will have to be to drop a size. I'm eager to see how my sizes vs. pounds lost ratio changes as I get smaller.

Or - it could just be that I'm 37 instead of 29 and I was able to do much more intensive work outs back then, so my muscle mass was better.

Hi, I lost 85 pounds and my experience was that every ten pounds was consistently a size down...
