Default Did you know that the oven auto clean function creates lots of smoke?

Yeah. I am a clean freak and my boyfriend- thankfully- has the good sense to have a maid come by each month at his place. He likes to make bagels with melted cheese in the broiler and it drips. He bought this brand new oven last spring and has never cleaned it. I baked some fat free muffins tonight for our breakfast tomorrow in an attempt to be domesticated (not my bag, baby) and the oven stunk. I hit clean and almost smoked us both out of the house.

I think it's safe to say that I will never be baking again... at least not without supervision!!!

My daughter used hers and caught the oven on fire! Oh my God, thought she was gonna burn down the whole apartment complex. The landlord blamed her, but I say the oven cleaning malfunctioned somehow. What a scary thing that was. Oh, and she's never used the selfcleaner again.

Yep, that is why its good to clean it regularly so the food doesn't pile up and you won't have all that smoke. The oven will still smoke during the cleaning cycle and it will stink and put out alot of heat but it won't be as bad!

I think I proved that point to my wonderful chef and boyfriend! My God, looking back, it was funny!

Mine smells kind of funny when I use the self-cleaner, but it doesn't smoke. But then it's only 6 months old too.
