Longtime Lurker Finally Signs Up
Hi! I'm almost embarrassed to admit I've been lurking here for well over a year -- daily since April 24, when I got serious about my health and weight loss. This board has been a real help and inspiration to me and now that I've plateaued and have to admit I don't know everything (don't tell my husband I said that), it seemed like time to sign up and really commit to losing the rest of the "baby weight".
Few quick facts - I am the mom of 3 kids (aged 20, 10 & 23 months - that's my "OnePerDecade"). My oldest is my son Jay,who is a Marine and the pride of my life. My 10 year old is my daughter Alexa, who is wonderful & gifted & probably the kindest person I have ever known and my baby is Fiona, who will be 2 in December. She was diagnosed as severely autistic in August -- I began to suspect she was months before that even, and that suspicion is what got my overly large butt up off the couch. I know that she is going to require a healthy, energetic mother and at 227, that wasn't happening. So I began to count calories, exercise & do light weight training and am now at 170 lbs. Better, but not there yet. My husband Eric is the love of my life and a MAJOR support for me - I am the most blessed woman in the world in that regard. Too bad it took me 2 other husbands & 40 years to find him (The spouses were also "OnePerDecade" but that habit has been broken). Weight loss is probably my number one hobby. If there was a degree program in dieting, exercise, nutritional theory etc, I would have a PhD. I am a recovered bulimic, having started at age 13 and finally going into treatment at 25 years old. I take a sick warped pride in saying I was bulimic long before bulimia was popular  Currently, I cannot say I've embraced any one diet plan (although I've tried most of them) other than simple calories in-calories out. I call it "If it tastes good, don't eat it" when people ask me what I've been doing. Sorry for the novel - believe it or not, this was the short version :) |
That was very intereting and I could have a PHD also.....just ask my dh who has stuck with me for 37 yr. and blessed me with 10 kids ages 35 to 16. You will find me on the inuitive eating #2 thread mostly as I have tried almost every diet out there and take prednisone......the hunger booster.... to boot.

Welcome
Hi Supermom:
Glad to have you on board and congratulations on the 57 lbs lost!!!!! If you're looking for a great group of girls to chat with, come visit the Just DEW It thread. I almost named my daughter Fiona, do you have some Irish links? I just loved that name as well as Siobhan. My best wishes and prayers for your family, especially the little one, I hope you're able to get and give her the best possible care. Mo |
Welcome in! As I'm sure you've already seen over the past year, there is lots of support around here!

Hi everyone....and thanks again!
Mo, I am Irish through & through...my mom was born in County Cork. I'm so bad that I list St Patrick's Day as my favorite holiday on all those silly surveys I get on My Space *tee hee*. If Fiona was a boy, her name would have been Declan - but we got our little Fiona Claire and my cousin had a Declan instead. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY with a lot of Irish Catholics and that influence is still a big part of my life. (My wedding band is the Celtic knot design!) |
Irish!
Greetings:
I was lurking a bit before posting my own introduction, and I just had to respond to your post before I even did that. I have had an affinity for all things Celtic since childhood. My family was German-American and heavily into being so, so Goddess knows where I got that. I am deeply involved with Celtic music, particularly Scottish, and it uplifts and energizes me every day. I am a fiddler. I love to play in sessions (musical gatherings). My husband loves the music almost as much as I do. We let the music take us to Ireland for our honeymoon back in 1982! I have been to the Scotland for summer fiddle schools and hope to do so again. Anyway, welcome from another just-reformed lurker. Blessings, Cathryn |
Welcome and congrats on the 57 lb loss! :)

Oh dear. Didn't mean to mislead. I haven't lost an ounce, or maybe I have, but I'm not weighing until Tuesday.
In any event, thanks for the welcome. I hope the day will come when you can really congratulate me. |
Welcome! My hubby just retired from the Marines so I know the stress associated with that!!
