New here - and MOTIVATED!!!

  • Hi all...

My name's Suzanne - but you can call me Suz for short - and I'm new here (obviously!). I started dieting and exercising two weeks ago; now, at week #3, I have lost about ten pounds total. Yay! At my heaviest, I was pushing 190; my goal weight is 135 - 145. Honestly, though, at this point the numbers don't even really matter to me as much as feeling better about myself... and that is coming, in stages.

One thing that I have found which really surprises me is that I am really, REALLY into the whole exercise thing. I grudgingly joined the gym two weeks ago, and I thought that the physical activity thing would be a huge obstacle. However, I'm finding that I like the regularity of it. I treat it like "me time," time when I can take care of myself and only myself, because I'm worth it... and that makes it easier. And when I finish every last minute of the workout on the elliptical after it kicks me in the butt, that feels pretty good!

As far as food goes, I'm doing good old-fashioned calorie counting. So far, it seems to be working. I'm extra-good during the week, and during weekends I am a little more lax with it... but mostly I've been trying to be very good. I've found that too much change all at once discourages and frustrates me; little lifestyle changes one at a time has proven very successful for me.

I have had good days and bad days - but I think that I could probably get through the bad days and help motivate others on the good days if I had a gang of people around that I could talk about this stuff with. This seems like a place of like-minded folks who are on the same page as I am!

Looking forward to this journey together!

    Keep on keepin' on -
    Suz
  • Hi Suz I feel the same way. You need support to truly be able to make it easier.. you're at the right place. By the way, that is a very a good way to look at going to the gym.. as "me" time. I think I'll remember that to motivate myself. Congratulations and keep up the confidence. You'll do this!
  • Thank you! Yes, the "me time" concept has really helped... and what also helps is that I reward myself when I'm done with my workout with a session in the steam room/sauna, or a nice long hot bath with just one glass of red wine... I sink down and say to myself "yep, I earned it."

We'll ALL do this - and thanks again for the vote of confidence.
