quick introduction:)

hi everyone:) my names paul, im 23 and live in bournemouth dorset. iv decided to go on a diet because im not happy with how i look and its not helping my already low confidence. i also lead a unhealthy lifestyle of beer and ciggies and have got a big beer belly i want to shift:ebike: im 5,11 and currently way 17 stone. i think thats 221 pounds? so i joined here for some support, tips and to chat to some nice people along the way, you all seem very friendly and thats cool:)

any diet advice would be really appreciated, i really dont have a clue where to start with my diet,or this site{quite alot of rooms} if to quit the drink and smoking first an then diet? , or to do it all at once?. but id like to do something and im hopeing this site may give me the boost i need:)

thanks for reading

paul

You need to conquer your demons one at a time. First stop drinking, then quit smoking.. then if you feel comfortable enough, start dieting. You don't want too much too soon... if you feel you can conquer them all at one time, then go for it!

Anyways, I wish you luck on your journey, and this is a great site!

Paul, fabulous first step! Laying off the beer will help more than you realize. Also, just being aware of what you're eating is a good step. Keep it up!

hiya kelly, thank you:) what im trying to do is also cut down on snacking, i really like crisps and sometimes eat 4/5 packets at a time! if i can stop the beer and crisps then i might not lose weight but at least i shouldent gain more. luckily i dont have a sweet tooth so chockolate and buiskets are not a problem, however if there is some in the cupbord i am quite capable of eating a whole pack at once, if i can stop the snacking and beers but not worrie to much about my main meals yet i think thats a good start. id love to try and do it all at once but i think it would be too much and id end up slipping.

Hi Paul. Welcome!

I just need to start by asking if that is your cat under your name. That is one of the cutest things I've ever seen. lol

Anyway, I wanted to wish you luck on your journey. I know it will be hard...as it is for all of us. I'm pretty new to this site, but it seems like a great place to get all kinds of support. Best wishes!

I think you're doing a wise thing, not overwheming yourself trying to quit everything at once. As you gain confidence in yourself you can work on all the things you want to change. Walking is a great way to start and just start out slow and gradually increase your time. Chips were alway my downfall, but if you can get the lowfat rice cakes they are great. I'm going to take one day a week and enjoy a treat, so I don't feel deprived. Maybe that could help:)
