I need a buddy

Hi, my name is Laramie "Woodspritechick" and I really could use a support buddy. I am in my late 20's and I need to lose well over 100 pounds. I am 5 foot 11 and weigh 270 lbs. I would really love for someone to just be an email buddy and support. I am trying to get back to working out, in fact I have a membership to LA Fitness, but I have stopped going. I think the reason I have not gone in months, is because I feel to out of place there, All around me I see beautiful people who are skinny and here I am this big fat girl. So I have started working out at home, or triing at least. My goal is to be able to wear shorts by next summer and be visually acceptable for public viewing.

Looking for a support buddy,
Laramie

Laramie,

Welcome to the board! You will like it here, and there are lots of places you can post and ask advice, if you need help.

I know what you mean about the gym, it is intimidating. I started at the gym about 4 yrs ago and kept it up. It was really hard at first but trust me, nobody is looking down at you for being there. Most of the people at a gym are just there to do the same thing as you. They probably don't focus on everyone else as much as you'd think. Give it a try again when you're ready. I have a home gym now because the gym was pretty far away. If you don't feel up to the gym yet, why don't you think about trying an exercise tape... that would get you started out!

Keep reading and posting and you'll grab on in no time. :)

Laramie,

I'm new here too and I'd love to have an e-mail buddy for support. We have similar stats, though I'm a bit older and a bit heavier!! I'm 34, I'm 5'9" and I weigh 275 (according to my scale at home, which is probably wrong but it's what I'm going by). I too belong to a gym but I'm too embarrassed to go, especially because I'm a high school teacher and most of my students go there or work there during the summer. My husband is VERY fit (in fact, he coaches track and runs in races all the time!) and that makes it even more embarrassing. I've been on and off diets, lost weight many times and gained it all back, but this time I'm determined. I really want to look completely different next summer. Let me know if you want to be e-mail support buddies, and we'll exchange info!

Hi! I'm also pretty new to this site and have a long way to go on my weight loss. I'm feeling kind of depressed because I have been counting calories for about 3 weeks and have only lost 2-3 pounds. I have been eating close to 1600 calories a day. How are you losing the weight?

Hi April,

not sure if you were directing that toward anyone in particular... ?

Me, I'm exercising 5-6 days a week ( I shoot for 6 but sometimes it's 5). BUT the most important part is the food, I think. Both go together.

I am logging/counting calories using fitday software and keeping my fat g's below 30 per day. I eat anywhere between 1100-1500 cals a day. I shoot for 1200-1400 which I think most would find low but that's where I feel satisfied. Today I didn't eat as much as I should and I feel hungry, but the weather is SOOO hot I just didn't feel like eating.

Eat lots of GOOD healthy foods and exercise. Try not to eat processed food (boxed stuff, packaged, deli meat, etc), avoid salt (sodium). Everybody's a bit different in how their body reacts. Just modify what you're doing a bit and maybe it will tilt the scale!
