Fat & Sad

I'm new to this - - and just need someone to talk to or a lot of someone's. I need support. I'm over 376 pounds, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart problems (angina), arthitus in both knees, right foot always in pain due to bone spurs, can't walk far and the list goes on. In December I joined weight watchers at my job - by March 17, 2006 I was supposed to have lost 37 lbs. Of course I didn't - lost about 2lbs and may have gained that back. I believe that I'm an emotional eater. Problems make me eat, happy times make me eat, confusion makes me eat. I've eaten so much in the past 46 years that my children are fat, my son is 27 and weighs over 350 lbs, my daughter is 13 and weighs over 275lbs. It's all my fault, if I could stick to a program and lose the weight then they would too. But I've tried everything and I can't stay on anything for more than two days, I end up cheating. Please help me and my family. In my culture it's not good to ask for help - - we are suppose to just seek God and trust him - - I do - - but I need some help....

Hello, and welcome to 3FC! You have come to the right place if you are seeking support...this place is wonderful! I am so sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time. There has to come a time that you will be ready--REALLY ready to being a weight loss program, and for the sake of your health, I hope that time is soon. But if you try before you are mentally ready, it can cause you to fail, as it did me so many times in the past.

We are here for you!

I am sorry to hear you are sad. You have come to the right place for support. Maybe you just have to think of your journey as getting healthier (and the weight loss will be a bonus) as your health is definitely suffering. When I started this year, my goal was to make better food choices, drink a lot of water and get moving. I have lost 33 pounds since the first of the year. With your health problems the moving part may be quite a bit of a challenge, but start by making better food choices. Lots of fruit and veggies, no fried food, no white food (white bread, white pasta, white rice, etc). Do you think you could do that? We are all here for the same reason, so don't be afraid to post questions, they will get answered! Good luck to you, I wish you the best.

When I came here, I felt totally alone, and really desperate. I couldn't believe there were people out there who were my size or bigger who had lost weight naturally. It's not always easy, but it's often easier than we expect. It does take a large investment of time, energy and sometimes money, but it's possible!

There's so much help here, the 100lb club for people with lots to lose, there's a section for 300+ and ready to start again, and faith based groups too.

You will get the help you need to get this thing done.

Hon, your post made me so sad :grouphug: Part of a lot of people's eating has to do with emotions - maybe you need to talk to a health professional to see what is going on with you that makes you not be able to lose weight.

You are so welcome to post here and you're are not alone - we are all in similar situations - it is not easy to change your mindset or your lifestyle but it can be done. :)

I suggest you check this thread out as the ladies here are in the same weight range and I am sure you will get help and support there.

http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=124 and as Kykaree pointed out there are all sorts of groups like faith based, dieting with health issues and with depression.

Good luck and have faith in yourself! :)

Think Positive!

Its not what you cant do but think of what you can do.
#1 Eduacate yourself on the right food choices to make
#2 Dont buy the High calorie, high salt, high sugar foods
#3 No matter how limited on physical activity you are there is something you can do, move your arms, legs, fingers whatever start moving
#4 See your Dr. make a plan and TRY YOUR BEST!!!
YOU CAN AND YOU WILL DO IT!!!

DRich - first of all, please try to let yourself forgive yourself for whatever you feel you might have been able to do differently. The past is the past - you can't change any of that.

You are definitely welcome over in the 300+ section. I too got to the point I could barely get out of bed in the morning my feet would hurt so badly, could barely climb stairs, etc. I realized if I didn't do something soon I would lose my mobility - which was incredibly scary.

The one thing I can say is to try and not look at the big picture. It can be so incredibly overwhelming. Start with some small things - stop eating fast food, stop drinking sweet beverages, drink more water, try and get 10 minutes of exercise. The little things can quickly add up and with those successes you can add another thing, and then another. It doesn't happen overnight.

Please don't be sad..

 You have come to a great place. I know it seems you have a lot of weight to loose, but try taking it one step at a time. Fitday.com is a great place to log what you are eating. I applaud you for taking responsibility for your weight, but your son is an adult and should take responsibility for his. You can be an example to him and show him what to do . I have alot to loose and am are the 100 lbs + to loose group here. I can give you some suggestions: Drink water and nothing else, soda is empty calories. Cut out the junk food, fried food and sugar food. Try and exercise , maybe a walk around the block the first week, and the next make it 2 blocks. To make a change you need to stick with it, and if you fall off the wagon, don't feel bad we all do , just get back on it. Think to yourself you are a strong women, if you can give birth you can take anything.:carrot: Cheryl

Ditto's to what all the ladies here have already said. We can't change yesterday but we can make better changes for tomorrow. Just take it one day at a time.

Dear Fat & Sad

You know yesterday I joined this group and that is what I was thinking. I'm FAT and SAD. That about sums it up for me. I just feel that we all have to start somewhere. I wish I could just sleep for about a month or two and wake up with about 20-30 pounds gone, but it isn't going to happen. I do the same things that you do. I stick with something for a few days and then I blow it all! Sometimes I wish that I could get the stomach bypass surgury or something, but my husband would never let me do it! I am a Christian and I know what you mean about not being able to get help and needing to trust God. It is true that we need to trust God, but I think that we all do need help with our struggles. I think that God made us to help each other out and to be their for each other. I will be praying for you. I made up my mind to take it one day at a time. What else can we do? And I don't have all the answers. We are going to give it all I have this time. My husband and my daughter who need to lose weight are working at it too. We can all do it!
Put off the past and strive for the prize of the healthy new you!

I can do all things throught Christ which strengthenth me!

Take Care!

QuilterInVA 03-23-2006 03:22 PM

If you can't stay on a diet, you might not do well with stomach bypass surgery. You can only eat a few ounces of food at a time for the rest of your life, very low fat, lots of protein---it is not an easy solution. Your problems will still be there and you can gain it all back. I was 356 pounds when I got the wakeup call. I am now 155. I have kept it off over 25 years. I did it with WW and maintain it with the WW Core plan. If I can help you, please PM me anytime. I highly recommend Dr. Phil's book the Ultimate Weight Loss Solution which you can get at you library or in paperback. He addresses how to handle eating when we do it for stress relief, comfort, etc.

Megan2006 03-23-2006 03:24 PM

I just wanted to say good luck with everything. You should be proud of yourself that you've made the decision to change your health. And we're all here to support you!!!
