Kind of new...

Apparently I joined this forum in the past but was never active. Now that the holidays are over and I'm back to losing weight again, I thought it'd be a good idea to begin posting to gain/give support. It could only help, right?

I'm in Bergen County, NJ, right next to the GSP. I'm 36, single, no kids, w/non-live-in boyfriend. I'm hoping to lose 40 pounds by summer.

I look foward to getting to know you all. :)

Welcome! What kind of food plan are you on or are you just finding your way?

Thanks, Susan! :)

In 2002, I lost over 100 pounds vis-a-vis low-carbing and exercising. I managed to maintain nicely for a couple years by remaining active and utilizing portion control.

For no other reason but laziness, my life has become more sedentary and my food choices poorer. I packed on 30+ pounds over the past 18 months or so.

I realize it's time to nip this in the bud before I begin seeing 265 on the scale again. I'm back to low-carbing and exercising regularly (The Biggest Loser and Callanetics DVDs). I'm currently weighing in at 177, my goal is 130.

Aren't you glad you asked? :p :D

I am!
100 lbs is excellent work!
I don't really understand the differences between the low carb type plans. Do you just cut yours back or do you shoot for a percentage???

100lbs wow Way to go.....
Good job sounds like you know what to do...just stick with it....

Heyyyyy Susannnnnn!!!!

Low-carbing can be quite involved and the plans can vary drastically. Some say keep it under 50 carbs, some say keep it around 25 carbs, there are protein and fat percentages to aim for, caffeine is a no-no on some but not on others, etc etc etc. I don't have the time nor the inclination to learn or follow all that. :dizzy:

I shoot for simplicity: as few carbs as possible per day, no more than 20, very rarely higher than 10. I keep it clean, too - lean meats, poultry, green veggies, eggs and salads. No low-carb energy bars or shakes. I do have one cup of coffee in the morning but water is my drink for the rest of the day. I also take a multi-vitamin every day.

Losing 100 pounds was surprisingly easy. I'd been heavy most of my life and was quite angry to find that sticking to a simple diet/exercising plan actually worked. I spent the better part of my 32 years being obese because of my own laziness.

Yeah, I'm pretty hard on myself, too. :o

Well, what you do isn't all that different from what I do ... nor lots of folks here for that matter. I use percentages so I dunno about the grams. Clean foods, water, a multi vit. That's about it all right. Interesting, huh?

I hear you about the anger part. I had myself convinced that I was a sturdy Flemish woman like my grandmother. Bosoms, belly ... you get the picture. A little bit of calorie counting, some walking and so on and people now call me small and tiny on a regular basis. Who knew? I feel a bit foolish actually.

Have you found any threads or groups to jump into?

Hi Leigh! We're a friendly crowd:)
