  • Hi everyone, I'm looking for a little support to become less in the next year. I want to lose weight to be healthier and to look better. I'm 46 years old and decided it is going to be now. I lost around 45 lbs 18 months ago, but stopped my walking and watching what I ate and it came back, but this time it's going away for good.
Any one wanting to be my buddy and work on being less in the future, I would be greatful and love the company.
A little background, I live on a farm in Iowa and have 2 children, and in Aug I will have been married for 25 years.
Look forward to hearing from all of you
  • Welcome to 3FC!

    Hi Bettk,
I am older than you but our goals are the same and that is to lose weight and get healthier. I have over 100 pounds to lose so if you want some one to talk to you can email me at [email protected]
  • I will be e-mailing you Abigi7, and thanks for the welcome Jigglybits. One of my big problems right now is what to do for an exercise program. I was walking 3-4 miles everyday and losing weight and feeling good, once I stopped walking the weight came back. I want to start over again, but there just isn't any place to go. There are no gyms or anything close by, and right now it is a little cold to be walking outside. I've thought about getting some warm clothes and trying it, but it can cause physical pain if I get too cold. Any one have any ideas?
  • Hi,

I am new here, too and planning on officially starting January 1.

I really like walking as my exercise of choice, too. Have you tried the Walk Away the Pounds DVDs? I really like them. I have around 100 lbs to lose and am going to be using my Walking dvds in the mornings before work.

    Hope this helps.
  • hI i'M NEW HERE BUT HAVE BEEN ON THE WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW. DOES ANYBODY HAVE SOME GOOD BREAKERS FOR PLATEAUS.
  • Welcome Bette! For "indoor walking" (assuming you have a tape or DVD player) you might try some of Leslie Sansone's tapes. She has several series and they're called "Walking away the Pounds." So...yeah, they're exercise tapes, but they're keyed to mileage equivalents (most are 1, 2, or 4 mile tapes). The routines are very straightforward (no learning complicated dance moves!) and they should definitely help if you can't get outside or to a gym. If you can't find the tapes at a store near you, check out amazon--they have pretty much all of them. I'd recommend getting a series of 3 (1, 2, 4 miles) and then depending on your time, you can pick a tape (plus, just being able to change things up a bit). I think I must have about 20 "workouts on tape" between the WATP (Sansone), yoga, and balance ball tapes

Of course, there's also buying a really fancy indoor treadmill all for yourself, but I figure since you're asking the question about alternatives, your budget might be as challenged as mine when it comes to $5,000 treadmills

(Jules, you should probably post your question starting a new thread--just use your "Does Anybody have good plateau breakers" as the thread title)
  • I'll have to get one of those DVDs and try it. Right now my living room is full of ponies, but I will make my daughter put them away soon. I don't have room for a tread mill, even if i did have the money. I loved walking outside, it was so nice, but now it's just plain cold.
  • I did it, today I wnet out and walked a mile. The temp was in the mid 30's, but there was a bit of a cold wind. I burned myself a new Cd and just did it. Outside of the cold it was nice being out again, I saw deer and pheasant tracks in the mud along the road. It makes me eager for spring tho. I'm going to get some warmer clothes and try to get out there every day.
  • HI I'm new here and I have at least 50 lbs to lose. Too scared to get on the scale. I could use some support. I'm married 25 yrs to a wonderful dh. He too needs to lose weight, but doesn't want to... Oh I'm in Ohio and need some for of exercise too...

Look forward to hearing from you. [email protected]
  • I went shopping today and bought a Walking Off the Pounds dvd, and a copy of the Sonoma Diet. I'm all set. At eh book store my daughter found a boy friend, he was an older man, all of 6 years old. They were so cute playing together and picking out books.
From what I've read so far I think the Sonoma Diet is going to work pretty well for me, and I'm going to get up early and do the WATP before work.
  • LOL--I like the sound of the "older man"--at least he likes to read I got out and walked today too but it was RAINING. Boy, i can't wait until I am small enough to buy some suitable hiking/walking gear at REI (I want GORETEX). I walked in jeans and those suckers are COLD after a while in the rain! I'm glad you found a WATP DVD.
  • Now or Never
I see you live in the Puget Sound area, I love the pictures I've seen around there, and I once visited Seattle as a child, it's always been a place I would love to go back to. Maybe after we lose all our weight we can get together and hike one of those mountains.
  • I got up early this morning and did the one mile WATP dvd this morning. my goal is to do it every morening before work, I'm just going to have to get up a little earlier than I did. My son had to go in to school an hour early to run for wrestling. I'm sure I could go in too, but there is no way I can keep up with those guys, they really have been having killer workouts for the last 2 months, with about 2 more months to go until the end of the season. I might ask the coach for some workout pointers. But this is a guy who has no problem running over 5 miles to school every day, and home again, and working out all day.
  • Bette,
I am so glad that you got the WATP DVDs. I started walking outside but then it got too hot for me. I found them by accident!! I use several throughout the month along with many other workout tapes/DVDs. I really like Leslie Sansone. I can't go to the gym because people might feel they need to call 911 when I fall on the ground panting and gasping for air. I couldn't live with myself if I caused all that hulabaloo over being a bit out of shape!
I did the 1 mile walk tape this morning along with 1/2 hour pilates. It works!
