Default 175 lbs to lose and lost. I need a buddy!

Hi everyone. I'm trying to research a start to a new life, finding all I can on the internet regarding dieting and exercise. I've been to a few motivational sites, with "How I Did It" stories, but I've come up against two possible small snags, and I'm hoping someone here can give me some sound advice.

1. I'm completely lost as to whether my diet should focus on low-fat, low-carb, or low-calorie. I'm a type 2 diabetic so I was leaning towards low carb, because that seems to help control my blood sugar. But the 1 time I tried a low carb diet, my cholesterol went out of control. Now I'm not sure what's the best route to take.

2. My weight has gotten so out of hand that I can't do most simple exercises. I've tried walking, which is the simplest and best form from what I hear, but a 10 minute walk makes my lower spine ache and I have to sit. I can't even get through the grocery store without having to find a bench about halfway through the store. I bought an exercise bike, but I'm short and even with the seat lowered all the way....I get a "wedgie" and I end up in pain if I try to keep going with a bike seat wedged in my butt

Can anyone give me some sound advice on the best diet route to take and the best starting exercise for someone with low back pain due to execessive weight? And would anyone like a buddy to make the journey less lonely?

My advice is just to start slowly. If you have to take lots of breaks when walking that's perfectly fine! Eventually your endurence will increase.

You might try swimming too, if you have access to a pool. The nice thing about working out in the water is there's no impact on your joints.

The key is to know your limits and just keep plugging away at it.

On the food front, I've always been a calorie counter. In the end it all comes down to calories in vs. calories out. If you're concerned about your blood sugar, I would make sure that you replace white carbs with whole grains and fruits.

Good Luck!

Wink We're all in the same boat

I completely understand, Exercise sucks not many people like it including myself, I also have an exercise bike collecting dust and being short is nothing new to me im 5'1 @ 185 lbs. Unfortunately, exercise is harder physically for some than it is for others but anything worth having like health, happiness, and a kick A** figure is worth fighting for right? Every time Im Exercising and im hating life I try to think of the millions of people out there going through the same thing. YOU ARE NOT ALONE by any means Just look take this web site for example its BOOMIN. So anyways take it slow increase movement little by little It does get easier. As far as your diet is concerned I personally just started a low carb high protein diet called Lindora you can get the book on they're website for about 25$ and let it be your BIBLE You dont have to join the program for 1,300 $ you can do it just by reading the book and can get the same results I heard about it from my mom who was contemplating some plastic surgery a tummy tuck, lipo, etc... the doctor told her she needed to lose some more weight. He said Lindora was the fastest safest way to do so and she did and looks great now she doesnt need the plastic surgery. Well good luck, I hope i can be of some help take care......
