Trying to Get Motivated....Again

  • I am new to the boards on this site and I must say I'm very impressed with the 3 Fat Chicks site. I am 53 years old, a 3 year cancer survivor, and very overweight. I am 5' 4 1/2" and I weight at 210. I feel very bad. I have a thyroid problem to boot which has aided in my weight gain, too. It's been a frustrating time for me. I am looking for any motivation and help I can get.

I am thinking of joining Weight Watchers in January. I am trying to cut back on meals right now but the holidays are truly rough. I am looking forward to talking to others and sharing ways to lose weight.

  • Hey there!
I am also a cancer survivor, twice! What were you diagnosed with??

I am lacking motivation as well , although this site is helping a LOT! Have you consulted your oncologist about the thyroid? There may be somehing they can give you (mind you if you are like me, you don't want to swallow anymore pills). I am having a hard time getting motivated, especially after a dizzy spell I had last week at the gym...I am thinking to either just wait until the new year to start, or next week go with the BF and he can keep an eye on me LOL...we shall see...I kind of just don't "feel" ready especially afer that dizzy spell...
anyway, I would love to be your "buddy"-Its kind of nice to know there are others out there in the same "boat"
  • Good luck!!!! I know it is soooo tuff. I am new to the site also but have been dieting for about 4 months!! I am also 5'4 and started out at 210. The hardest thing for me to kick was sweets, but I did it and hardly ever have a craving for anything sweet now. Next I tackled portion control and eating out. I still eat out but I have learned what I can and can't eat. My last obstacle is exercise.... I really enjoy exercise but it is so hard to find the time and motivation to fit it in as often as it is needed. I will tell you 182 feels alot better than 210...if I had of known I would feel like a different person I would have started this whole healthy life things a long time ago.
  • Welcome Cyl! You've come to the right place for support, encouragement, and great advice!
  • I too have thought of weight watchers as a possible solution. But I can't afford it I simply can't. I wish I could. But I have found a possible solution to it. I am using another forum too that is WW support. I am hoping to learn as much as I can without having to join the group. I can't afford it like I said. I go to school full time and work full time and have 2 kids that consume the rest of my time. SO figureing all this out is going to be a challenge itself. Well good luck and look forward to hearing your advances to weight loss.
