Another newbie
 

Hi, I am Debbie. I am a recently widowed, stay at home, homeschooling mom from MO. I found this site because a friend mentioned it to me. I have been overweight all my life. I can remember being 5 and hateing my body. I was big when I got married, big when I had my two children, big when I adopted my third and big when my husband died in March of this year. In the six months since John died I have gained another 36 pounds. I attribute this to the Ben & Jerry's "diet" I went on this summer. I realized that I am slowly killing myself and surpizingly enough, I want to live. Realy want to live. I am ready to become the woman that God created me to be and I am ready to face all of the pain and bad habits that got me here. I am 6' 2" tall, so I can carry a lot more wight than most and would look very very ill if I weighed 150. So my goal is to loose 175 lbs. I want to start with that 36 that I gained over the summer. I am addicted to sugar and I know that this will be a hard thing to kick. I have a good friend that has been on Jenny Craig and has done very well. She is my hero. One thing that I saw her do and I want to do is change my lifestyle to include intenional exercise. She and her husband and three kids have started including activities like bicycle riding a swimming as family events. My children and I have been seeing a councelor since John died and provedencially enough, she specializes in eating disorders. Last week she agreed to work with me on my eating issues. I feel that this a HUGE step in the right direction. I am glad that I found this place. I can come here when I am feeling bad and want to go to the store for that pint of B&J! I look forward to meeting everyone and for any help y'all can give.

Glad you found us! Why don't you hop over to the Christian Encouragers group. It is a wonderful group of women and two men ;) that help each other through weight loss and life in general. You probably would really like the people there!

I am Lori and live in southwestern Illinois. I homeschooled our oldest, but my 4 youngest are attending school. My kids are 19, 9, 9, 8, and 7. The 4 youngest are adopted.

Do you live in Springfield? I went to school at Drury back in the 70's.
