Hello from Georgia!
Hey ya'll! I am so lucky that my best friend stumbled upon this forum and emailed the link to me! I have read through quite a few posts on here and decided I might as well go ahead and get this first post underway!
I'm trying to lose weight, again, for the millionth time it seems...LOL! Only this time I have my best friend and my sister at my side joining me. I hope it makes this journey much easier and we can keep one another on our toes! This time is a little different for me as I have a really strong reason to make this work this time. My health. Yes it was always a factor before but now more than ever. I'm sad that it took me getting a herniated disk and being in alot of pain to realize what I need to do - but better late than never, right! I am ready to do what I need to do to get this weight off! I'm glad to have found such a great community, full of people who truly understand what I am going through and how I am feeling! Looking forward to many more posts here! Thanks! :) |
i'm the sister, YAY!
i'm the sister, but i'm a little sleepy and i don't know what to write. :dizzy:
|
I'm sleepy too..sudden case of insomnia is seems *sigh*
|
Hey lovely ladies :) -- I thought it would be best to make my first post here with you guys.
I know we look forward to getting to know you all. What an AWESOME group of folks we have found here and I hope we fit in well. Warmest Wishes!!! |
Hi, Yall! I love your names, Sweet Tea! I'm from Ky. (originally) and my mom still makes sweet tea! So sweet it hurts your teeth to drink it! That can't be good for a diet!
|
Quote:
Not good for the diet but oh soooo divine. We like to say that "we like a little tea with our sugar." It's the house wine of the south and I have unfortunatly been addicted. I've got my fingers crossed and my splenda ready.... |
Splenda is what I prefer too. it has less after taste than the others. I've broken the habit of the sweet tea and Iknow yu can too! Lots of other things I still have to work through! I'm getting there one step, one day at a time!
|
We can do it!! I haven't had sweet tea in three days now! Count em..THREE DAYS gals! I think I will be fine till I go over to "Sweet Tea's" house tomorrow night. It seems that as soon as I walk in her door I am pouring myself a glass of ice cold sweet tea! I have faith in us tho!
Thanks for your warm welcome slim me :) |
LOL -- I have not made sweet tea at all this week :D even though Bear has been asking for it. Maybe we'll break out the unsweet and see if we die drinking it. Oh the horror... just kidding :).
|
Just the thought of unsweetened tea! YIKES! LOL
|
Hi
You girls stick together..no sweet tea! I don't think I could get used to drinking unsweetened tea either, but you wouldn't die! Would you? It takes a while to get used to the taste of an thing new but I've gotten used to a lot of them. I actually like diet pop (diet rite) and I drink skim milk (whole milk tastes like cream now). It's just adjusting your taste buds. And those things you can you can just "quit". You still have to have food to survive, you can't just cut it out! I'm learning better ways to cook and my taste buds are adjusting. Freda
|
no sweet tea? :O :|
i used to only drink regular soda and now i can't! not sure about the unsweetened tea, seems un American. :nono: lol i could probably do it with splenda. ok, but i could DEFINITELY NOT do the skim milk LOL it's like water to me. :snooty: well, i like water if it's really ice cold.. so maybe if i trick myself into thinkin' i'm drinking water. ok, i'm gonna look around here befire i leave for work. being new + forums make me nervous. haha
|
Hey ladies...it's good to see more georgia peaches on the board! Would you believe I haven't had sweet tea in nearly 3 months?  I know, I know, I'm going to get deported to Alabama or something...LOL. :p  I'll actually be coming down I-95 in your area at about 4am Saturday morning...I'll yell "hey" out the window and y'all see if you can hear me!
|
This is fun, I like this place! LOL! Its so nice to talk to so many nice people with such great attitudes!
I can definately do diet soda but I also drink my share of water too. I am still not sure about the whole "unsweetened tea" thing tho. Isn't that just...brown water?? Ewwee :fr: Off topic but... I love this lil guy -----> :cb: |

We'll be listening for you!! Give a huge holler!! |
So, how are Y'all doing? Managing to stay with that diet? I'm doing ok. Yeah, just ok. I did well yesterday and this morning I ate one of my husband's donuts for breakfast! I don't even like donuts! How lame is that? But, I will do better the rest of the day! Hope you do too. Freda
|
Hey Freda I'm doin pretty well so far. We were all 3 tempted last nite at Sams when the kids (my 3) had cherry icees but we were all able to resist. Oh they looked so yummy. Especially since it was 100 out here yesterday.
MMmmmm donuts, sounds very yummy too. My DH had Krispy Kremes at work on Monday and he told me about them. I wanted to kick him for tellin' me the sweet details. Meanie :). Lunch will be a true test for me today as I am oin up to have lunch with DH and the boys ( 2.5 and 5 months old). I'm hopin he will eat at quiznos since they have salads. I'm also hopin for some unsweet tea with lots of ice -- splenda is already in my purse. Hope you have an awesome day too!! Sara |
I always carry splenda in my purse too! I jsut do't like those pink and blue packets! they both have an after taste to me.
Tell your husband "shame on him" for giving you the gory details!!!! |
Sweet tea and KK donuts..this looks like the thread for me! Maybe we should start a southern's support group :) After all, we live where some restuarants fry every vegetable on the menu... we have special needs!
Looking forward to meeting y'all! Beth |
ejm -- a southern group would be a lot of fun! :) Living in the same city as Paula Deen and a ton of great southern resturants is a challenge to even the best of us. Oh, and Welcome emj! So happy to meet you!!
I did use my splenda today and I DID NOT drink any of my sons sweet tea!!!! Yay!! the slim me -- I hate those other sweeteners too. I never could tolerate their funky aftertaste. Cheers Chickies! Here's to havin a GREAT on plan weekend!! |
Hey ladies!
Southern support group? Special needs? Sounds good to me! Well, I have succeeded in doing well my first 5 days of Phase 1 on the SBD! I couldn't have done it without my sisters and this forum! Here's the breakdown... There are hershey nuggests in the office at ALL times. Did I have any this week? Survey says...NO! None! ZILCH! YAY! On Wednesday - someone at work had the gall to bring in doughnuts AND mini muffins! How rude!! Did I have any? Survey says...NO! None! ZILCH! YAY! Happy weekend fellow lifestyle changers! Keep up the good work! :cb: :dancer: :cb: |
Looks like we've all faced some temptations this week and WON! It's one week at a time, one day at a time! Breaking old habits is hard to do but it can be done. They say it takes 30 days to form a new habit! We can do that!!! We are SOUTHERN! We can do anything!!!
|
LMAO @ slim me!!
Yeah, we can totally do it! 30 days to form a new habit? Well then, we only have 3 weeks to go and that's nuttin ladies! |
Yay -- you go Leanne!! :dancer: I have been thinking about chocolate this morning but I saw a phase 1 SB recipe last night for peanut butter cups that may just do the trick for me.
Off to refill my water and feed beby Logan! Big High Fives to all our new pals!!!! :high: |

Could you just pass that recipe around? Sounds yummy! Especially if you have a major sweet tooth like me (us?) What are some of lyour favorite recipes (low calorie)? Care to share some of them with all of us?
|
Sorry -- I have been MIA all day and didn't get a chance to check in. I will post that recipe here tomorrow and see what else I have up my sleeve!!
Hope you all had a good weekend. See ya'll tomorrow!! Sara |
Ok -- that peanut butter cup recipe. It is from the South Beach forum. There are some pretty awesome recipes there but THIS ONE sounds like the bomb and it's phase one friendly.
2 tablespoons natural peanut butter (peanuts and salt only) 2 tablespoons of Cool Whip Free 1 sugar free fudge pop Put the pop in the microwave for 10 secs so it is easily removed from the stick. Mix with other ingredients and ENJOY! 1 serving. Remember the PB counts towards the 2 tbs per day that you are allowed to have. SB phase 1 Big thanks to Ruthxxx for this! This one from beachgal -- Chocolate Meringue Kisses From the 5/16 Daily Dish: Don't be afraid to use a pastry-bag — once you get the hang of it, it's really easy. These cookies will keep for a week, tightly covered. Wait to sandwich the cookies together until just before serving. Ingredients 2 egg whites, at room temperature 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar 1/2 cup sugar substitute 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, lumps removed 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Light whipped topping (1 tablespoon per sandwich) Instructions Tip: Make sure your bowl is completely dry and clean of grease or the whites will not whip up enough. Preheat oven to 250°F. Place egg whites and cream of tartar in a clean bowl or electric mixer fitted with whisk attachment. Whisk at highest spped until whites form soft peaks that hold their shape when you lift the whisk. Add the sugar substitute, 1 tablespoon at a time; whisk until whites turn glossy and form stiff peaks that hold their shape. Do not underbeat. Whisk in cocoa and vanilla until blended. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Fit a large star nozzle into a pastry bag. Fill pastry bag with meringue. Pipe 20 meringue kisses onto prepared sheets. Bake 30 minutes, until crisp and dry. Turn oven off, let cookies cool in oven for 30 minutes. Remove from baking sheet. Sandwich pairs of cooled cookies together with whipped topping. Makes 10 cookies. Nutritional Information: 19 calories 1 total fat (1 g sat) 0 mg cholesterol 2 g carbohydrate 1 g protein 0 g fiber 11 mg sodium This one sounds great and is very low calorie as well !! I think I want to try this one this week. Hope ya'll had good weekends! Mine could have been a whole lot better but I did stay on plan with only one slip. I had an emotional weekend with issues with my DH (all related to my weight) so by the time I went to walmart last night I was craving chocolate like a madwoman. I ended up getting some dark choc peanut m&ms and I at about 10 and then threw the rest of the bag away. I hate being an emotional eater... I am back on track today though and saw that I was down 2 more lbs. |
From following a great link posted in the lighten up forum -- (http://www.blogthings.com/wherefrom.html)
You Know You're From Georgia When... Sweet tea is THE drink. No questions. When a waitress asks what you want to drink and you say Coke, she asks "What kind?" "Ya'll" is a word. Atlanta is known as "The City." You know the difference between a hillbilly, a redneck, and a Southerner. The one way to be killed in .5 seconds is to talk about somebody's mama or talk bad to somebody's mama. Krispy Kreme dounuts are the only kind of dounuts you eat. Fried chicken is a major part of your diet. When the Goverment started telling people to stock up on duck tape, you were waaaaaaaaaay ahead of them. You walk into someone's house and people are sitting around smoking what they call "the garden" On one side of the road there's Wal-Mart and on the other is a cotton field You greet people with"Howdy, Whachu doin?" You know what a 'dawg' is. You know people who consider a six pack and a bug zapper quality entertainment. The directions to your house include "turn off the paved road." Your dog and your wallet are both on chains. You still call the refrigerator the "icebox". You call it a cold Christmas if you don't break out in a sweat in your new sweater. Your whole town completely shuts down for 1 inch of snow or just the threat of snow You know at least three streets named "Peachtree" You don't know anyone who drinks Pepsi. The last thing you want to do is give another driver the finger... unless your car is armored, your trigger finger is itchy and your AK-47 has a full clip. It is not a shopping cart, it is a buggy. People actually grow, eat and like okra! You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from Georgia. Ok -- Leanne and Christa drink Pepsi but it's not their fault :D -- their parents were originally from Ohio and their Dad worked for Pepsi for awhile. They all are about as southern and wonderful as they can be though so I can forgive them the love of Pepsi. LOVE YOU GUYS!!!! |
Hey guys,
I started a southerns group called southern comforts (sorry! I couldn't think of anything weighty lol) Anyway, come on over, we have a permanent home now :) Beth (who's southern, but still doesn't like okra :P ) |
I'm not froml Georgia, just Kentucky. Maybe that's why I like Pepsi. Actually I usualy drink diet rite, which is RC. And how could any one not like okra? You myst not be fixin it right! Looking for the new site.
|

Oh MY!!! well it's fresh brewed tea with a ton of sugar mixed in when it is hot and then served over ice. It's the house wine of the south :D. If you want to pretty it up you can throw in a slice of lemon :). since we are changing our eating habits now we are makin it with splenda. Not nearly in the same ballpark but it will do in a pinch. |
I understand we call it Ice tea down under( but not with as much sugar lol )
You girls have been doing so well keep going http://www.3fatchicks.com/weight-tra...07/60/102/.png |
