Hello.

  • Hi.

I've been looking around at the forum for a while and decided to join. To tell you a little bit about myself, I am 25 years old and live in Edison, New Jersey. I am a college student at Rutgers University studying psychology. I live with my boyfriend of 5 years, no children, but I do have a hamster.

As far as weight goes, I am only 5'1 and weigh a ton. ( A ton meaning about 185lbs.) I find that I have a hard time finding people that are short and heavy. I know that they are out there, but don't see many of them. So if there is anyone out there like this, I would love to hear from you. I understand that I have my height going against me in the weight battle. All I have to do is look at food and I gain 5 pounds. But anyway, I do an assortment of exercises (ranging from yoga to cardio/weights to roller blading) and eat rather well. It took a while just to get to this point, I use to eat like a pig and not exercise, which is how I got here in the first place.

I think I've said enough. I apologize for writing too much. I guess I had a lot to say. I hope everyone is having a good 4th!
  • hi there

I am in the same boat as far as height and weight issues (5' 2" and currently about 177 lbs and I am 28 and have no kids) I have found this site really helpful. I don't always post and mostly just lurk but the advice and being able to relate and also recipes have all been really helpful.

I am currently doing calorie counting and find it works well fro me. I get to eat the things I want and still feel satisfied. Two of the best things I have done are getting a pedometer and adding more veggies and fruits to my diet.

If you would like a buddy, I wouldn't mind chatting with you. I am usually on every few days.
  • Hello.

That sounds good to me. I will be on almost daily during the rest of the summer, with a few breaks here and there. I will be on every few days once fall comes around and school starts again.

Recently, i've been exercising about 90 minutes a day, 5 days a week. I keep the exercises variable. I do The Firm ( a combo of weights and cardio) and yoga, bootcamp and pilates and rollerblade on the weekend. I find i get very board very eaisly. The food has been the hard part to manage. I think i have it more under control, but every now and then i have stuff that i like, i just watch the portion. i use to eat crap, but now i watch the simple stuff (like no whipped cream on coffee) and eat more fruit and vegatables and stay away from fast food. i don't eat a lot of meat (not because i'm a vegatarian, but its expensive and takes a while to cook) so i eat tofu instead.

anytime you need to talk or anything, i'll respond as fast as possible. talk to you later.

  • sounds great to me too.

I do many of the same exercise things. I like doing yoga (usually once a week) I really enjoy walking. I have been thinking about getting a treadmill so I can walk when it's cold out. Food was really hard for me too. I couldn't understand why I was so heavy so I started keeping track of what I ate on fit day and it soon became clear why. So i have cut down on my intake and continue to ad veggies and fruit.

I am on a bit of a platue right now. I find summer really hard with all the BBQs and partys. I am almost happy if I maintain and not gain.

How long have you been working at your loss.

  • Hi!

I've been trying to loose weight for a few years now. I tried Weight Watchers but it didn't really work for me. However, I did learn that I ate like a pig and was able to watch what I was putting into my mouth. i understand where your coming from on what we put in our mouths. Its amazing what we've put in our mouths to put us in this position.

Anyway, I've been exerciseing well this week. Even if its just 45 minutes (on a really busy day) that is probably good. I wish I could eat a little better. I just dont have enough time to cook and by the time I get home I haven't eaten all day and am starving.

By the way, you've lost a ton of weight! Congrats!!

How long have you been trying to loose weight? Do you exercise on your own or with a buddy? We've (my boyfriend and I) have been looking into getting an elipitcal trainer for a few weeks now. Haven't done it yet, but it would come in handy for the chilly months. (And there's a ton of traffic in this area too. The people who do walk and jog along the street are brave in my opinion) But I think its a good idea.

I see that you live in Canada. What do you think of it? How far up north do you live?

Hope all is well on your end! Take care.

  • I have been overweight all my life. I come from an 'eat, eat, eat' family. So I don't feel like I ever really learned proper portions. You just keep eating until there is no more room. I have spent the last 2 years really trying to lose weight. My weight just kept going up and I couldn't figure out why, then i started tracking things and like I said it quickly became clear.

Thanks for the congrats. It has taken me 2 years to get to that. There were a lot of road bumps along the way and I have tried to do a good deal of learning why, and when I overeat not just a crazy crash diet that you gain all back in a month. It has worked so far. I admit there were also many points when I was just stuck or even went up, but I feel really good about how far I have come and I don't feel at all like I am dieting this is a new lifestyle.

I have to admit that our problem areas are opposite. I have no problem with the food stuff...finding the time and cooking (probably because I enjoy it so much) The exercise is where I have my problem. Number one gyms are so expensive and here in the winter it is really the only option some days. I can never find the time to get out and do stuff. It always ends up at the bottom of my list. (which is so stupid on my part) I exercise with my husband sometimes but he doesn't like walking.

    Well gotta run. chat later.

  • You are not alone
Well I have everyone beat here I think. I am also 5ft 1in and started at 250lbs! I have lost 5 so far. Would be happy to go this together with someone. At present I am doing WW since it is well balanced and I can use my own food ect but with all the kids I have, am unable to make it to meetings so it would be good for me to have the support also.
  • hey neo.

how is ww going for you? i found that i did eat like a pig, and it did help me cut back, but the help was limiting and adventually ran the course. however there were many, many people that did well on it. is this the first time for you on it or have you been on it before?

just hang in there with the weight loss. five pounds is a good start

sorry this is so short, have to get back to work. talk to you later.

  • Funny how different people's perceptions are" You weigh "a ton"? HA! I would give a lung to only weigh 185! I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. I have tried to lose weight in the past, but something always seems to happen to hinder it. When I was in high school, I started losing weight, but they I had to have emergency surgery for a huge (10-inch) ovarian cyst. Those 27 staples down my stomach kept me from exercising for months, and in the hospital, the food was horrible except for the ice cream, so that's pretty much all I had (unless my parents brought me some pizza or fast food--how helpful ). Then I started losing weight again a few years later when I was in college. Then I got this funky rash...turns out it was called Pityrhiasis Rosea, and the doctor said exercising would actually make it worse. It last for months, so there went that effort, too

So now here I am, apparently weighing 2 tons, and am serious about it. I'm lucky I have never had any weight-related health problems, but that luck won't last forever, I'm sure. I want to have kids before I'm 30, and I certainly don't want to have a higher-risk pregnancy because of my weight. I'm not even married yet, but I know this much weight will take a long time to get rid of, so here I am! Good luck to you all--I love reading other people's stories!
