I love Curves! I've been a member since March and go 3-4 times a week. I've lost 27 pounds and 19 (I think??) inches total. Of course, that's combined with diet and exercising at home on the days I don't go to Curves. I'm deffinately more toned than I've ever been in my life, and I've made some great friends there. Thankfully my Curves has great hours so that hasn't been an issue for me.
I Love Curves! Its a fast good workout. One thing that I would have to say, is that since the machines are hydrolic you have to work faster for them to work. If you just use them at a normal speed they wont work.
But I love Curves, its a great support system.
I also strongly susgest looking into the Curves Diet. you choose which one is best for you and the curves have meeting once a week. for support.
I joined Curves last year and enjoyed it but I didn't loose a significant amount of weight. Don't count just on Curves. Curves alone will not allow a person to loose a large amount of weight. One needs to combine eating properly and extra exercise at home besides Curves. For instance, if you own a treadmill then use that as well or take fast vigorious walks in the park.
Also you have to go fast on the Curves equiptment. Since you are using your own body to make them work you have to put everything you have into the exercise machines in order for you to see any results.
In other words, you can't go there and just do the exercises slow and like you couldn't care less. You kinda have to work hard to see and feel the burn.
I haven't been to Curves in a while, but after seeing this website and threads like this it has motivated me to go back ASAP. Why not, I am paid until Sept.. might as well use it!
I've been going about 4 times a week. I needed something that would motivate me to actually go (like a paid membership) and something I could actually do, since I'm finding it hard to do more than 30 to 45 minutes of exercise during pregnancy. But it keeps me going, keeps me exercising, even just that 30 minutes, so that I'll be more apt to continue after the baby arrives.
I work the machines as fast as I can, and even though they say you shouldn't (I never follow advice well LOL), I lightly jog on the recovery station. Getting my heart rate generally over the limit suggested. I'm just so used to a good cardio workout.
They just gave me a copy of the Zig Ziggler Curves Motivation DVD. And Ziggler at one point is talking about how Curves is perfect for women, all woman environment, no mirrors to discourage you, etc....then says, "no sweat"??? I dunno, I sweat quite a bit. Maybe it's the jogging when I'm supposed to be in recovery? LOL But I've actually tried days of just lightly walking and I still sweat because I do work the machines to the fullest. Most everyone else I see goes about it kinda half-heartedly and I've never seen anyone else there work up a sweat.
I guess I've spent too much time with Leslie Sansone..."sweatin's healthy! It means my body got the movement it needed." LOL
I jog on the "recovery" stations too. I feel like I'm not working if I don't. You deffinately can't count on Curves to work on it's own to help you loose weight. I go 4 days a week and workout at home the days I don't go, usually doing cardio videos and/or going for long walks with my DD in her stroller. That, combined with calorie counting has helped me loose almost 30 pounds in the 4 months since I joined Curves. The other women there have asked me how come Curves is working for me better than it is for them (LOL) and I'm honest in telling them that Curves is not the only thing I do to help me loose weight. It's going to take you a lot longer to see drastic results if you do. (and I'm not saying that going to Curves is pointless, building muscle is just one componant of being healthy, and you need to combine it with diet and cardio to be really effective)
