deerod 04-20-2005 08:07 PM

WOW.. hi everyone.. I'm soo glad this thread got this many responses.. I know we can all do it... well as for me.. this is my plan.. I cut out junk from my diet.. nothing drastic and I drink a (generic) weigh loss shake for breakfast.. (convienent).. and I'm trying to downsize my portions.. so far I do great for breakfast and lunch.. but when I come home it's a different story.. but I have to take it one step at a time.. next week I'm gonna start walking.. my husband and I just moved into our newly built first home.. and we have a 70 lb dalmation that refuses to run in the yard.. he just lays on the porch by the door.. so we need to get him in shape to.. I hate to say it but hes fat... so here we goooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

ChunkyThighSyndrome 04-20-2005 08:40 PM

Hey, count me in! I need some buddies to keep me motivated, and to motivate, during this weight loss journey. :D

I have a little less than 130 lbs to lose. I've been overweight since my early 20's, and I'll be 38 in August. That's a LONG time to be heavy! I'm tired of being told how pretty my face is, like the rest of me is not worth anything... :(

smilesarepriceless 04-20-2005 11:17 PM

Dee -

I am so glad I saw your post. I want a buddy too and am so in need of having some kind of support system.

I am 30, just had a baby ( she's 4 months old tomorrow), and my husband leaves for Iraq in June for one year.
I had SERIOUSLY considered weight loss surgery, but just want to really do it with good exercise and eating habits.
I have 130 lbs to lose also!

We can do it! Right.??

If you ( or any of you gals) are on yahoo IM --- my name is smiles_are_priceless and i would love to have your support that way too!

deerod 04-21-2005 07:58 AM

New and Frustrated!

Hello, everyone...

I'm going to be turning the big 50 in September and need to lose at least 100 pounds. I would love to have and be a buddy. I did Atkins for about a year and lost 50 pounds, but then started to gain it back even though I was still following the plan. And once it quits working, it's easier to "fudge" a little since sticking to it isn't working anyway! I am doing a water aerobics class 2-3 nights a week and just got a Tony Little Freestyler that I do the nights we don't go to the pool. I am sure the secret is moving more...and I've always hated exercising, which is why I'm where I am. But now I'm starting to miss it if I skip, so I count that as progress :)

Anyway...it will be nice to share our victories and frustrations with each other. Thanks to all of you in advance!

Emily

What a great thread and great responses. I would love to join in with you all.

I am 35 and live on the West Coast in Canada. I would love to lose 90 lbs, although would settle for 10 at the moment !!

Look forward to getting to know you all :)

ashavison 04-23-2005 09:54 PM

Hi I have 104 lbs to lose. I started counting points and working out on Tuesday. I'm so glad I found all of you!!!

smilesarepriceless 04-24-2005 09:11 AM

wow - this thread has all kinds of fun ladies.. ok, well so now that we have lots of us with common goals, how are we gonna do this. I'll be honest, i haven't an idea exactly of what I am gonna do. I want to eliminate soda from my diet for now, drink more water and eat healthier....oh, and exercise too.

Louie 04-24-2005 02:49 PM

Sounds like we need to come up with a group name and then we can start posting regularly on the Support Groups board...

any ideas ?

kclay61 04-24-2005 02:52 PM

How about PIC - Partners In Crime?

FxrcPaki4lyf 04-25-2005 09:34 AM

hey well im 15 live in nyc n i need 2 lose a lil over 110 lbs....i dun know if i qualify but ive been strugleing with this weight for practicaly half my life...n im starting to lose hope so i think i really need motivators

deerod 04-25-2005 10:35 AM

wow

when I posted this thread I wasnt expecting half as many responses as it got.. thank you all for being so motivational.. as for me.. I've been on soo many diets since I was about 13 years old.. from starvation, atkins, cabbage soup, formula ones, dexatrim, atkins, slimfast, low fat/cal.. and many many more.. I did lose weight on Atkins the first time I tried it, but didnt loose anything the next 10 times I tried it and if I did, I gained it all back plus more.. the only thing that works for me.. Is low fat low cal, exercize, and portion control.. I do really good monday thru friday, but when the weekends come I'm in big trouble.. so today I'm starting over again.. I have a generic slim fast shake for breakfast, a 100 calorie snack, a lean cuisine for lunch (really yummy and satisfiying even though they look so small).. and a healthy dinner.. if it doesnt have nutritional info on it, I'm better off not eating it, and I am allowing myself a cheat day on the weekend because I'll probably do it any way and if it's not allowed I might give up all together, I plan to start excersizing soon and I'm only gonna weigh myself once a month.. i'm a scale aholic.. .. I'm also gonna ask my (desk) job if I can go part time so I can start taking care of myself.. I would really really love to know what kind of steps everyone is taking or going to take to reach their goals and change their lives for the better.. we just need to realize that what ever we do has to be a change of life because if we just diet to get to our goals and then we go back to our old habits after we have achieved our goals then we will gain it all back.. so Please share your ideas and opinions.. love you all.. good luck.. we can make this journey together..

PS.. fell free to pm me any time.

Funky Pioneer 04-25-2005 12:10 PM

HI ALL,

I need a big support group! I am wanting to loose at least 72lbs although it would be nice to loose 90 or so. I am in need of major motivation! DH is a bad food influence and always brings home junk. What diet is everyone useing?? I need a good place to start. OH, I am from AZ and I am 26 and have 5 kids, yes I know thats a lot of kids. This summer we are moving up to provo, Utah.

SwimGirl 04-25-2005 01:50 PM

Hey! I am following a South Beach-type diet, basically no sugar, no wheat, no artificial sweetners, low fat, lean proteins.. that seems to work the best for me. It sounds pretty harsh, but unfortunately my body doesn't want to lose weight and this is the only thing that really works. I'm also exercising, walking lots (a min of 2km's/day), and I have an at-home weight program I do :) I think I am prepared, I have a lot to lose so I have to be.

deerod - I am totally addicted to my scale, I would die if I couldn't weigh myself more than once a month!!

-Aimee

deerod 04-25-2005 03:40 PM

swim girl.. addicted to your scale huh?? well I'm pretty addicted too.. the first thing that made me click is that I had 3 of them.. 2 digital, and 1 regular heavy duty spring scale... I used to weigh myself all the time and everytime I did I would just get depressed and eat more because I figured what was the point.. so I got rid of 1 of them and I have the other 2 stored high in my closet so that way I really have to work to get to them and it makes me think twice.. I've been the type of person whos followed diets to a tee until I weigh myself and see nothing has happened.. and then I get off the diet and say "It wasnt working anyway".. but not this time.... .. well not to self loathe or anything, but... I did really good on my diet today.. and I went and bought a little note book so I can write down everything I eat.. so far I'm at 6g fat and 740 calories.. and I only have 1 meal left for the day... :D

SwimGirl 04-25-2005 04:00 PM

When I was first dieting I was told to keep around 30 grams of fat a day, I was a lot lighter then though. I like the diet I am doing now, just because I'm one of those people who can't stand figuring out calories or grams of fat. I'm almost a lazy dieter! Thats why my plan works so well for me :)

As for being addicted to the scale, I have 2, and before I put one of them away (it was WAY off), I would stand with one foot on one and one on the other. Fortunately seeing a number on the scale doesn't really bother me too much, I don't know why. But I definitely do hate myself sometimes, so I feel you on that. I wish there was a pill to make me feel better about myself, because thats where I fail. This is it though! Time to get at 'er! :)

Hello,

deerod 04-25-2005 05:14 PM

hi Austin.. and welcome.. I too need to loose over 100lbs.. different things work for different people.. I've done everything.. and the most effective and easiest one for me is low calorie.. portion control, and excersize.. I know what I need to do.. I just need to do it.. but I'm here for you.. and this is a great site.. very motivational..

Funky Pioneer 04-25-2005 09:21 PM

I really want to try the Mediterianian diet. My doc told me this is the best one out there. The only problem is, I hate seafood! BLEECH! :barf: Is it possible to do this diet without the sea food?

~~Sunshine~~ 04-25-2005 10:39 PM

Hello Austin!!

Good Luck with your weight loss! Just wanted to say I am also from Kansas I would be happy to be your buddy!! Let me know!

ashavison 04-26-2005 12:58 AM

I also have two scales. i was keeping one in the kithchen by the fridge, but everytime I saw it peaking out from under the desk at me I would kick it back under. It's amazing how a number can make us feel about our selves. I just want to be healthy.
I'm counting weight watchers points. I find it to be quite easy. there are no meetings where I live though so I'm going to have to be very committed to this little ticker. I've also quit drinking pop. It's been 5 days and I haven't harmed anyone so I'm doing pretty good.

austin615 04-26-2005 11:53 PM

Heloo Deerod,
I didn't know if anyone recieved my messeges! My name is Cheryl. I have 2 Girls and 3 grandchildren and one grandchild on the way. I really need help losing weight. I need help finding a diet that can use. Can anyone help. Where is kansas are you from? I really like this community for a support group. I just need to get started, so I can start losing!

momX3 04-27-2005 07:29 PM

Hi my name is Lisa and I am new to the site. I need to lose 120 :?: . I have had weight issues since I had my first baby almost 16 years ago. I lose then gain back :( . I will be 38 in August and would really like to have some support from women in the same situation.

I have joined curves (I Love It so far). I am trying to eat healthy. I could go on a fad diet and lose the weight but this time I want it to be a lifestyle change.

Thanks ladies!

Louie 04-28-2005 12:42 AM

Wow ! I haven't checked in in a few days, and what a great response to Deerod's original post.

So how is everyone doing ? I am still struggling with staying on a program... I think the key is finding one that works for me and one that I can stick with for the long term. I have considered going back to WW, but am still trying to make the decision, and decided whether or not I really want to commit that much financially.

I checked out ediets this week, but not really keen on having a full meal plan set out for me. If it was more of a meal building tool then I think I would have liked it better.

So what is everyone else doing ? What is keeping you going ?

Well I am off to bed. Have a great evening/day and chat with you all soon.

p.s. What did we think about starting up a PIC (Partners in Crime) Support Group ?

deerod 04-28-2005 11:02 AM

clip clop.. I'm sorry you havent found anything you enjoy.. I to do not want to pay someone to tell me what I can and can not eat.. I know what I can and can not eat,, i just have to not eat it.. is it me or do all over weight people know how to lose weight, and give advice to people on losing weight but when it comes down to it, we just don't do it.. I've been reading this book (I cant remember the name of it but I'll post it later) and on the first pages it kept saying, in order to lose weight you have to have you're mind set.. if you dont have your mind set, then its the kiss of death.. so this time.. I want to eat healther, I want to write down what I eat, and I want to excercize.. it's not, I have to do this I have to do that.. I WANT WANT WANT!!! sorry to keep babling.. but I'm going into this with an attitude of strength that I've never had before.. good luck to you

hello clip clop.. well so far so good.. I've been counting calories and excersizing.. I write down everything I eat and if it doesnt have a nutritional content on it or about it, I wont eat it.. been mostly living on lean cusine and using my calorie king book as a life jacket.. I'm allowing myself one cheat day a week to eat anything I want and I'm only going to weigh myself once a month because if I dont see a change in the scale I tend to give up.. except for this month, the last time I weighed myself was 4-17-05 and I'm going to weigh myself on may 1st.. mainly because I think its easier to always do it on the first, and second because I'm kind of anxious..
