old and fat, need to loose but how?

  • Hi!
Yup you read it right. 42, fat and need to loose weight. The hubby is in Iraq again and would love to have him come back to a slimmer wife. Where do I begin? what should I eat? I thought i was eatting correct but the fat isn't going away. I walk alot, train dogs, do agility and am fairly active so where am I going wrong?
    has anyone tried cortislim?
  • It could well be something to do with the portions you eat rather than what you eat.

To put it simply to much energy in not enough energy out = fat
Equal energy in and out = stay the same
Less energy in and more energy out = weight loss.
Unless of course you have any medical conditions because some drugs will retain weight.

Next thing you have to think about is salt content. Too much salt will cause you to retain fluid. Fluid = weight.

Then start thinking about water. Water is vital to weight loss. I drink about 1500mls - I think thats about 60oz of water daily. Or at least I try to. Sometimes its hard especially if the weather is cool, but there is nothing stopping you from drinking hot water.

Then sugar content also plays a part. It's not easy is it?

You can try a planned diet like Weight Watchers or TOPS or by yourself with programs such as South Beach, Sugarbusters, Atkins - there's a million of them out there, or you can measure your portions and limit meat, poultry or fish to around 100g to 150g - thats around 4 - 6 ounces. A portion of meat should not be bigger than the palm of your hand.

You already seem to be doing the exercise, maybe some weights and cardio tapes may help a bit as well.

I really can't recommend any of the 'fast' diets as I think the weight comes back and brings some of its mates with it, the minute you stop.

Whatever else, you need determination, will power and sheer pigheadedness to lose. Never ever give up trying and eventually something will happen. It won't happen in the first few days - any loss at that time is fluid and that will come and go. It may not even happen in the first week - more likely if you follow the 3 main things, food portions, water and exercise it will take at least a month to see real results.

Oh and don't just rely on the scale. Take measurements, especially if you exercise a lot, the tape measure will show results quicker as muscle weighs heavier than fat.

Good luck and hope to see you around here to chat to for a long time to come. You must miss the husband.
  • You might want to try inputting your daily meals/activity into http://www.fitday.com. This will help you get a better picture of how many calories your burning vs. taking in. It can also help you to balance your meals with the right amounts of protein vs. carbs vs. fats.
