Newbie introduction
Where to start? Well I'm a man, but I really like what you have going on here. I hope that doesn't make anyone uncomfortable. Last November I weighed 307 pounds, I played Santa for a friends family get together. Kids in stores would point and ask their mothers if I was Santa. It was fun, I'm keeping the beard and long gray hair, but so far I've lost 68 pounds. I started the South Beach diet June 7th at 295 and have lost 56 pounds so far. If you really want the details check out "http://mjsdietblog.blogspot.com/". I may move it here into a journal once I figure out how they work and if that's really what they are for. I can relate to what a lot of you have been through, at 47 I finally figured out I've been suffering from depression all my life and finally got it under control with Effexor. A few months later I went in to verify my suspicions that I have also had ADHD all my life, well there was a test I passed with flying colors ;-).. I really think that getting those 2 things under control is a big part of why I'm finally getting this weight off. Take care and good luck in your battles.

Do I exercise?
I've been on the South Beach diet for 17 weeks now, down to 236.5 pounds!
9 weeks ago I started walking 1 mile at lunch each day during the week. I am up to running about 1/3 of the distance, in short 140 foot segments. 4 weeks ago I started lifting weights, low weight, 4 execises, 15 reps, 3 sets each after work on weekdays. It takes about 15 minutes for the walk and 30 minutes for the workout. This pretty much eliminates any "I don't have time" excuses. I have even stayed after work on particularly busy days and walk/run my mile then. A freind of mine has recently decided to join me, both on the South Beach and working out, this makes it much easier for me. The weight loss on S.B. has been fairly steady, and I've added exercise before stalling out, usually by picking a weight and commiting to add an exercise at that weight. Sorry to go on so long, one of the reasons I joined in here is I really love talking about this and I'm afraid I'm boring the crap out of my so-workers and freinds ;-). Take care. |
