Take 2

Five years ago I introduced myself to this forum. I had been diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome). I was convinced I would change things and make a plan and lose weight. I thought I had a great doctor and things were looking up. Five years ago I was a fool.

Five years later I'm back, and after a rude comment from my own mother about my weight I'm rightfully ticked off. So i said fine, I'm going to buy a scale, and make little changes, slowly, and stick to it this time. That's when the scale read 384 and I wanted to cry. Or throw up. One the plus side, I didn't open that can of Coca Cola I had by my side, and went for my water bottle and filled it with crystal light.

Today I am emotional, as that number was the last thing I expected...but today by not picking up that can of soda I made a choice, and its a start. I just wish I knew the way from here.

Sorry to hear your own mum was rude to you. I too have PCOS and have a hard time staying away from soda. Congratulations on not picking up that can! It is a victory!

I have been day dreaming about Coca Cola all morning. I use Crystal Lite a soda substitute also and I like that there are versions with caffeine. Another thing I drink in place of sugared soda is Sparking Ice and it comes in a bunch of different flavors. Staying away from sugared soda is one of the four daily mini goals I set for myself. The more I can stay away from it, the better the results I see.

The book I like is the Insulin Resistant Diet. There is a theory that PCOS is caused by insulin resistance and the book offers a way to balance foods to help. Lastly, I have started trying intermittent fasting and think it has potential. It does conflict with the book (small meals often) but I figure the timing of eating is more flexible.

I hear that you feel like a fool and like crying. However, you are no fool! Losing weight is a journey and many of us are on it. Skipping a soda was a victory for today. What will be your victory tomorrow? Skipping soda? 5 minutes outside? Preparing a one-liner come back to your mum in case she starts up again? Picking new walking shoes? Watching a video on a plan you are considering?
