I am diabetic and I need help

I used WW for a very long time. On and off of it. I joined WW again, just this past Saturday, to see about using it, and am able to get a rx from my dr. In talking with my dr today she feels that I have type 1 diabetes. She says that it won't help me, so I have cancelled it, again. But I am not crazy about their new program. I just want my old WW back. I am not happy. I need to find something to use to help me lose this darn weight. I am not happy with it, I don't like it, and I am just tired of being fat. My experience has been that no one likes anyone that is fat. It is very depressing. I am just hoping that I can find some program to help me get this fat off. Thanks for listening. Have a super day.

BelovedElf, I am type 2 diabetic, and don't know much about type 1. I don't understand why your doctor thinks WW would not help you. Did she offer an alternative? You say she "feels" that you have diabetes. What tests did she do to determine this? You are either diabetic or you are not. If you are, you need to know for sure and take the necessary steps to control it.

The diabetic meds that I am taking are not making a dent. I was up to 100+ Lantus am and pm. Taking Novolog on a sliding scale each time I take my blood sugars. On Tanzeum 1/week (Sunday), and now taking Jenivia (sp) in the evening with my evening meds. She has taken me down to 10 u of Lantus in the evening, but has adjusted it up to 25 u at night, then every 2 days titrate it up 5 u (today being the 2nd day I will take 25 and then tomorrow being day 1 will go to 30). Very frustrating.
I don't like the new WW, so I am going go through my paperwork that I have here at home and do an older version.
Thanks for your input.
Have a super day! :)

Hello Beloved Elf!

Did you mean that your doctor is trying to determine whether your DM is type I or type II? They have different causes, but diet and exercise are important, regardless of the type. I have seen folks selling older versions of weight watchers online. You might do a search for whichever version it is that you liked.

Good luck!

You only joined last Saturday, give it a shot. That's not enough time to get used to it. It took me about a week to get a feel for the system and then I got much better at planning and I now REALLY enjoy it. I just got another person to join yesterday. I wish I made commission :dizzy:

I joined in mid-March because I am also diabetic and I need to lose weight. I've lost 45 pounds and cut my meds in half. Sometimes I don't take them (I've discussed this with my doctor, so we have a plan) like this morning, my fasting was under 100. I'm good. I've also cut my BP meds in half and am currently monitoring because I will probably be off all BP meds by my next appointment. My cholesterol is back in the normal range.

If your diabetes is type one, WW won't necessarily "work" (as far as lowering your A1C) like it has for me with my type 2, because they are totally different. But regular exercise and a controlled diet will go a long way towards making you feel better. I didn't realize how BAD I felt all the time until I felt better. Extreme highs and lows are really hard you, which I'm sure you know, but I didn't realize how much better I could feel until I didn't feel terrible all the time - if that makes sense. I guess I thought exhausted was just my new normal.

Also, have you seen a nurse/nutritionist who specializes in diabetes counseling? When I was first diagnosed, it helped a LOT. I felt really overwhelmed and she helped me sort out how I could better handle things and plan and still live my life. My insurance covered it but even without that, it was not expensive so I would have happily paid out of pocket.

Exercise is also a huge component of controlling diabetes, any type and the best part is it doesn't have to be rigorous and miserable, you can just walk!
