It's urgent now

Hello everyone. Unfortunately this has not been my first introduction. I've done a few over the years and I have failed each time. I just can't do this anymore. It is urgent that I lose this weight now and get healthy especially since diabetes runs in my family. I am 40 now and it's just going to get harder if I don't do it now. I also need to be an example for my kids. My 11 yr old is overweight now, and it's all my fault. So hi!

Hello, welcome, and way to go on prioritizing your health! As a fellow 40-ish old person, I agree it does get harder as we get older so good choice on making it a priority!

The most important step towards losing weight is to eat a healthy diet. For someone who's trying to avoid diabetes, sweets should be avoided. You should also avoid foods which are high in saturated fat, as they can increase the risk of diabetes.

Try to eat foods like vegetables, fruits, and beans. If you eat grains then try to eat only whole grains. For healthy fats, you can eat nuts, avocado, and fish (but not fried fish).

Exercising regularly will also reduce the risk of diabetes.

If there are certain foods that you're not sure if you should be eating, feel free to ask.

Hi Vanessa! I'm starting again for the umpteenth time myself. Let's consider those other times practice, we should be ready for a really good run this time! I, too have an overweight son and he always appreciates it when I quit bringing so much junk food in the house (just not at nine in the evening when he's rummaging for snacks.)

Best of luck! I'll be watching you. ;0

Me too!

Hello Vanessa!
It's my first time in here, just discovered it and I thought the name was adorable. I am in my late 40's and it does get harder. My nutritionist has discovered that I have a lot of food allergies, which goes with eating so much crap, processed food that your body can no longer handle it.
I am currently not eating bread, pasta or any grains. Actually I don't miss it so much. When we go out I can get a pasta dish, no pasta, and it still tastes wonderful without the carb or gluten overload/stomach bloat.
I'm not trying to quit everything at once, though, it sounds like I did.
I'm not really trying to avoid fats because your body does need fat, just be sure that you're eating quality fats - avocados, real butter, coconut oil etc. These good fats can help you feel full too.
Cheers, kel
