Teen with Insulin Resistance
Hi
My 17 year old daughter had a 2 hour glucose tolerance test done a year ago, her results are as follows: Fasting Glucose:88 2 hour post Glucose: 143 Fasting Insulin: 55 2 hour post Glucose: 338 Her BMI at that time was almost 30. Her labs were just repeated after losing 40 pounds, they are as follows: Fasting Glucose: 75 2 hour post Glucose: 112 Fasting Insulin: 12 2 hour post Insulin: 192 Her BMI now is 24. I understand her numbers are significantly better, but can anyone help me with the 2 hour post Insulin level. The Endocrinologist told us last year it was all weight related, well, she's lost 40 pounds and has a normal BMI now and it's still VERY HIGH. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?? Is this Diabetes? Does it need treatment? Thanks So Much! |
Hi, lakegirlz
My husband and I are both type 2 diabetics. When it comes to 2 hour post glucose, normal for a teenager is less than 140 mg/dL, and her test shows 112 so it looks good to me. For a teenager to lose 40 pounds in a year is a great accomplishment, not at all easy. Congratulations to her. |
