Dear Americans...

  • Hello, this question has been bothering me for a while as I read a lot of American books and watch a lot of American tv shows. What on earth are biscuits? Over her in the UK a biscuit is what I believe you would call a cookie and I haven't been able to work out what our equivalent of your biscuit is. Any help in answering this would be appreciated. slimmingsi would also like to know what grits are?
  • Biscuits are a fluffy bread here in America. I'll attach a picture.
Grits are made from corn, boiled and often savory seasoned. They're traditionally southern, but lots of people enjoy them. For me, they're a bit mushy to be good. Likewise, picture attached.

  • Scones are probably the closest UK equivalent, but biscuits are generally a bit sweeter and fluffier.
  • Thank you both, as soon as we saw the pic slimmingsi and I both said 'oh scones'.
