Hi, My name is Lois, I'm from the UK and I'm 52 years old. I am currently receiving help to lose weight with an NHS speciality clinic which I have been attending since August of last year.I have been very,very overweight all my life but in the last few years it has become so bad as to be considered life threatening so despite trying many many times over my lifetime I decided to give it one more shot. The first clinic I attended was on 30th July 2016 where I weighed in at 423 lbs - now almost 10 months later I am 342 lbs but I'm finding harder and harder to keep with it. I do feel so much better and my mobility and health have improved so much but I've started to slip back into old habits and for the last 4 weeks I haven't lost anything. I will tell the professor at the clinic next time I go [about 3 weeks time] but I am struggling at the moment. I have been promised that if I can just keep on track then in August I can be referred for gastric band surgery on the NHS as I couldn't afford the operation unless it happens this way. I could really do with some support and my family are great but its not the same as help and support from someone that has been or is in the same situation.
You have already lost an impressive amount of weight! That's amazing! There is a forum on here for people that are going to get a gastric band and people who have had one. That would probably be a really great place for you to find the support you need. There have been tons of people who have gotten the band surgery and have worked up to getting it.
And I know what you mean about affording it. My insurance won't cover it unless you work out and diet for a year and lose at least 75 pounds on your own. Which at that point, I would only have another 55 pounds to lose and that is below their number of weight to get the surgery. It's always something. But I really hope you find support on here.
