New Here and starting Atkins today!

Hello everyone!

I'm not new to weight loss. In June of 2013 I weighed in at a hefty 301 for my 5'4" frame. I moved from PA to Myrtle Beach and I don't know if it was the sunshine, the ocean or being embarrassed of what I looked like at the beach, but I started caring.

I began Weight Watchers and got down to about 270. Then I started going to Planet Fitness and got down to 254-ish.

Finally, I went to my doc and got a combo prescription. I was dropping a pound a day and never hungry, but my blood sugar levels were still not great and I had absolutely no energy.

Long story short, I moved back to PA and went from my lowest point, 227 back up to 260.

I joined Planet Fitness last week and I started Atkins today.

I am looking for friendly advice on low carb and working out for fat people with bad knees.

Nice to meet you,
Crystal

Hi Crystal, nice to meet you. I grew up vacationing in Myrtle Beach so I know the area.

As far as exercising goes, most of my family has very bad knees that prevent us from becoming runners. As an alternative, when you are at Planet Fitness, try using the elliptical machines for cardio. They sort of cradle your knees and are much lower impact than using inclines on a treadmill, for example.

Best of luck and dedication to you! :carrot:

Thank you Duchess! I will try that. I keep hoping that as the weight drops, I will be able to do more with my knees!

Hi Crystal. Welcome!!

I think every person who has ever been working to lose weight can relate to the big regain after a big loss at least once.

As far as low carb diets go you have to keep the meals exciting and realistic in order to maintain it after you complete any plans you might be on.
After I got married my portion control went out the window and all the processed junk food came back in. If you are a stress eater I suggest replacing candy with fruit. These days I prefer grapefruit when stressed.

You can make your menu more versatile by using herbs and spices. Make the same chicken breast that you may be eating 10 days a month into 10 different meals.

All the best on your journey!
Deb

Thanks Deb!

It was disappointing, but I realize now that it really is a lifestyle change and that I didn't have the tools to deal with stress.

I just need to buckle down and pre-plan my meals.

I'm excited about joining this board and hearing what everyone has to say. It's true that no one thing works for everyone, but I like to take the best of it and make my own "recipe".

Same here!!!

Hello! Good afternoon!

I, too, am new here, and am starting Atkins today.

For breakfast I made a scrambled egg and some cheese.

For lunch, I'm making chicken thighs (bone in, skin on) in the oven and some biscuits and macaroni.

Of course, I won't be eating the biscuits or the macaroni. Sigh. lol.

Anyway, good luck! :)

:carrot:

(That carrot was too cool not to click.)

In my book, that is the ONLY way they should be made.

:T

Mmmmm.

You know, I put those thighs top side down and I used some salt, pepper, thyme, and butter on them.

In a minute, I'll flip 'em and do the same on the other side.

yum yum yum.

--yep, oven just beeped.

Yeah. Heres a great place when you feel up or down about your weightloss. I'm having a bad day because of sudden hip pain that gotten in the way of my plans to exercise but I do feel like having my usual potato chips or chocolate to help me feel better so I guess thats a win.

Doing all your prep on one days helps too. And having stuff that you can just pop in the microwave or oven for a quick meal for crappy days when you can't spend as long a time cooking.

I'm just starting... again... How do you get over the cravings? in the past, I have been continuously derailed by anything sweet. *sigh*
