Hello, everyone...

I found this site a few days ago and I am enjoying reading topics and posts. My journey to a healthier me began on April 14th of this year. It is slow going but I am having a good time along the way. As of today ( I weigh in every Sunday) I have lost 17 lbs. Meh, its a loss not my adding 17lbs:) I feel better each week and I never lose sight of that fact.

When I have lost 50lbs I am going to do the 'don't take the elevator all the way up, take the stairs a flight or two" in the complex I live in. My apartment is on the 8th floor and my end goal is to be able to eventually walk up those 8 flights.

I am very happy I found this forum. It's impressive.

Hi Diane, and welcome! I really like your goal to climb the stairs because it is an accomplishment not just an arbitrary number on a scale. You will get there and be sure to let us know when you have climbed them. I would like to be able to jog a mile straight without passing out lol.

Thanks, aml0017. The stairs exercise just seems an attainable goal. My pace and also because no one will be watching me. If I was exercising in any way publicly I would talk myself out of doing it. I'm very overweight and sadly when I've walked anywhere out of my buildings private property people have felt the need to voice some outrageous things when they drive by me. That's on them, I know this but it has made me leery of leaving the property to do my walking.

I liked how you stated what my end goal is! It WILL someday be an accomplishment
for me and a much different satisfaction than what I get when I weigh myself.

:welcome: Diane! I'm so glad you found us and joined! A 17 lb loss is fantastic! I love your stairs goal too. Since you feel more comfortable doing exercise at home and if walking is your preference, be sure to check out the Leslie Sansone Walk at Home videos on Youtube (if you haven't already discovered her). I like these beginning ones really well: Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndVjwkaLGDk, and Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8b4P57jNsQ. Good luck!

Welcome! You will do great as the support here is awesome (I'm a newbie and already feel the love). 17 lbs loss is great. Celebrate the small goals!

I just figured out what NSV means - it is "non scale victory". I kept seeing this and didn't know what it was. I think we should all have some.

Thanks for the welcome Jacqui and Alicia:)

I am trying to do a 30 min in home walking video they offer. After 3 days I am only able to do 15 minutes and then my bad knee starts acting up. I walk fine I just can not do weird movements with my knee. The video at the 15 min mark progresses with forward step then back etc. It is where I stop the video. I will look at the Leslie Sansone Walk at Home videos on Youtube...thanks.

Alicia, I am getting used to the slow loss ( last time I lost a big amount of weight was 40 years ago and it dropped off like crazy then) Reminding myself I'm moving forward is what I make myself do each morning. I agree, small goals work just fine and should be celebrated.

aml10017, I never heard NSV..cool lol

WELCOME DIANEALEAHA!!!
Glad you found us! I think your idea for looking for healthy victories in other ways than the scale are really good. I find that more often the better I feel, because of eating better/exercising more is a far greater reward!
17 lbs. is great! Don't even think that it is not! Sometimes I try to see it with something more visually powerful, like if you have a pet...how many bags of food would 17 lbs. be? Or imagine if you had to carry around a 17 lb. backpack all day? Guess what! You aren't doing that any more! Isn't that awesome? I think so!
Join us here often & you'll be walking up those flights of stairs before you know it!! YOU CAN DO IT!!
