Hello Everyone

Hi. I am 71. 4 years ago I was diagnosed with prediabetes and have been eating low carb ever since, to control my diabetes without meds. It worked great for that purpose, and I even lost about 40 pounds the first year, without trying, then the weight loss stopped for the next 3 years.

I smoked for 51 years, and quit last July. Well, I must now use oxygen 24/7. My doc said the best thing I can do for my lungs is to lose weight, and I need to lose 70 pounds. I tried adjusting my low carb diet, that didn't work. I tried various other diets, those didn't work. I heard about the Weight Watchers points diet, but I am the type of person who would squander my points on junk food in the morning, then would spend the rest of the day stuffing myself with 'free' foods. It just wouldn't work for me. I am one of those who has to be told exactly what to eat in exactly what amounts, and if I can mark each food off a list as I eat it, that helps keep me on the straight and narrow.

I have an old Weight Watchers cookbook that has the Quick Start diet plan in it. It uses exchanges, meaning I can eat (for example) 2 bread exchanges, 2 milk exchanges, etc per day from a list of foods. 4 days ago I started the diet, and it is working great for me. I am very happy with the diet and never hungry. I have heard horror stories about how on the old WW diets you had to eat liver every day and how you were limited on the number of eggs and how many servings of beef, pork or cheese you could have each week. But on this Quick Start diet, there are no limits like that and no requirement to eat liver.

I am wondering if anyone else here is on one of the old exchange plans.

Welcome! If you look at the WW section, you'll see people that still follow the old style WW plans.

:welcome: klinker! I'm so happy to hear the WW diet is working for you! I'm rooting for you to get off that oxygen 24/7! :cheer: Good luck!
