First 4 days are the hardest???
I’ve taken the first step to a new me, they say it’s 1 day at a time….but they also say the first 4-days are the hardest. I’m half-way through day #1. All is good

Good job so far! :)
Personally, I've always found it the easiest to stay on track for the first week or so because I'm feeling motivated. But I think it probably depends what you've been eating regularly, and what kind of cravings and physical addictions you might be working on overcoming. For example, if you're used to eating a lot of sugar and you suddenly stop, your body may go into withdrawal. And if you're used to eating a lot of salt (chips, etc.) you might find less salty food "bland" for the first little while while your taste-buds adjust. Those kinds of things can definitely make it difficult to change your way of eating. But like I said, for me, the difficulty comes later. This is because eventually it seems like a long, strenuous task to keep eating healthy, and eventually I tend to decide that I'd rather be fat than keep working so hard at being healthier. I think I've solved that problem for myself by rewarding myself for things I'm in better control of (specifically, logging calories), but only time will tell. |
I did not find the first 4 days particularly hard, but I do think that early on, it's more "easy to quit." Thoughts like, "I'll start this next week instead" crossed my mind because not much has been invested yet. However, I lost 7 lbs in the first 4 days so that was actually very encouraging. Results like that help a lot.
The hardest part came later for me when I hit my first plateau about 2 weeks in and actually gained weight for three weeks before losing again. And actually, it continued to be hard because I was so hungry, even during gaining, before finding a routine that worked for me without starving myself. Not saying I'm never hungry, just not to the extreme before (that I felt was unsustainable.) But I still made it through the hunger because I heard that hunger may be the body's response to burning its fat reserves. That's what we want, right? |
