Hello all! So glad to be here.

I'm brand new here but I'm looking forward to reading the forums and meeting some wonderful people. I've been trying to lose weight for a long time. I'm at the point where I think slow and steady might be just fine for me. I've gone on diets and lost lots of weight quickly only to put it back on plus more shortly after.

My weight has very slowly crept upwards since having my son 14 years ago. It's always been so little at a time that I would just dismiss it. Now at 5'2" and 202 lbs ( my heaviest was 212), diabetic with high blood pressure and high cholesterol I can't just dismiss it anymore.

I took care of my mom for years as she was very overweight and lost some of her mobility. She was heavier than me and dealing with the same medical problems so she decided to have gastric bypass surgery. The doctor believed it was the only way she'd live longer than a year. She did lose weight and felt great for a short time. Unfortunately, the weight kept coming of until she was hospitalized and eventually died from malnutrition and related complications. It was horrible and painful beyond words!

I don't want my children to go through that with me. I want to be around to meet my grandchildren. I want to hold my husbands hand as we go gray and wrinkle. I want to live!

So, here I am! It's taken a lot for me to come to this point. I'm glad to be here. Thanks for listening!

I'm so sorry to read of your mother's passing. Gastric bypass surgery is not the best choice for some people, although it's helped hundreds of thousands. It's so hard to to know beforehand. I wish her doctors had been able to help her.
