Newbie and looking for others in the FIFO industry

Hello, I am currently 21 and struggling to lose weight and when i do I seem to gain it back quickly.
It has been on ongoing battle now. I started gaining weight after I had to quit sport due to Knee surgery. After the surgery i gained the weight quickly going from a size 14 to a size 18 in a bit over a month. Recovery took longer than i thought due to infection and not been given any phisio. I couldn’t jog for 2 years after the surgery. Once i realized i was getting big i started exercise but had to keep stopping due to pain and i gave up because i wasn’t losing any weight. last year i decided to ignore the intense pain and started walking 6-8kms a night and i changed my eat habits after 7 months of this i only lost 2kg i lost the motivation. At the start of this year my doctor out me on Duromine and was walking again and started doing squats but was advised to stop due to shin splints once again i lost the will to keep up good eating and started snacking once the duromine stopped affecting my appetite. I started at a new site and camp and have been to the gym a few times going on the treadmill and doing 6kms a night and included some jogging but this caused my legs to hurt to the point i could barely walk. I was going to go back in this swing and try the bike and rowing machine but i have had absolutely no energy, no matter how much sleep i have at night it feels like i can hardly lift my legs. The last couple of nights i have realized that i am gaining the weight again. When i get back on my next swing i don’t want to drink, i want to go to the gym.

Any tips on how i can stop the pain or what exercises will be better to take the pressure direct of my shins and knees

welcome aboard, Oh Tricky One! you certainly do have some challenges. Is there any chance your doc could get you started with physical therapy so you could get some professional help in figuring out the best exercise for you, that won't wreck your legs?

a challenge at the best of times, and at your tender age, you're facing a lot of years with this issue.

Having said that, check out the exercise forum here. The BEST advice I've ever seen for people who have some limitations. Of course, there are some power lifters and marathon runners in there, but there are also a lot of people who face similar challenges as you.
