New user hoping to be a new me

Hello! I am really glad to have found this site! My name is Nikki and I am struggling with weight loss. Last year, I lost 20 lbs. but I am stagnant now. Haven't gained but haven't lost.

I want to get back in the swing of things and I hope to be surrounded by supportive people. I also hope to be able to give something/anything back to those around me.

My goal is to lose 15 more lbs. to be back to my weight before I started to eat bad and then... of course... feel bad.

Here's to lots of greens, exercising, and meeting new, inspiring people!

Also, thanks to the makers of this great place-- it is truly a selfless thing to make a sanctuary for others!

Hello

Welcome and good luck on the remainder of your journey. Im just reading a book which suggests that your pausing is probably a good thing for your weightloss journey.

Its called the the no hunger diet. Its about how the hormone leptin helps and prevents us from losing weight easily. One of the key points is what she calls set point.

The set point is the point that body thinks is what we should weigh and that point is not fixed in stone but a weight we hold for some time. when we go significantly below this the body triggers a signal and we kick into the famine reaction, often referred to as starvation mode. In that mode our metabolism slows down and we burn fat less efficiently and find it harder to lose weight as well get fairly hungry.

Apparently the antidote to that incident is to start eating. A lot of people who plateau say they start losing weight again when they increase their calorie intake.

Then there's another thing she calls the fat brake which is how our bodies actually try to stop from gaining weight in much the same way or opposite way that our bodies try to stop us losing weight.

I think its all pretty interesting.

So anyway you've probably done yourself a favour.
