Ready to be happy

Hello everyone,
So I don't know where to begin. I don't want to bore everyone so I will try to keep it short! I am a 24 year old single mother of an amazing 3 year old. I have been strugging with my weight ever since I was in High school. I have extreme anxiety and have suffered from depression in the past due to a number of things that have happened in my life. I am the heaviest I have ever been right now and am in desperate need of a change so I can be a healthy and happy role model to my daughter. I sometimes like to think I have an addiction to unhealthy foods, but maybe that is just an excuse? Anyways, I am thinking of going out and buying a blender so I can start making healthy smoothies to help kick start my journey. Looking forward to having some type of support system here. :)

welcome :) good luck on your journey.

just so you know an addiction to unhealthy food isnt an excuse.. high sugar, fat, carb etc.. food releases endorphins which make you feel happy and you get addicted to the feeling. just take it one step at a time and remember who you're doing it for and you'll be very successful :)

Hi slowcheetah!
I am new on this forum as well... welcome and good luck on your journey! It sounds like you will do awesome because you are motivated!!! I am here for a similar reason... I want to be fit enough to play tag for a long time with my daughter. I also want to buy skinny clothes one day soon :) Pegeye gave great advice about taking everything one day at a time.... I will try to be following that also!

I think we all deserve to feel beautiful. Sometimes I feel like my outside doesn't match the inside if that makes sense lol. Thanks ladies and good luck to you as well :)

Endorphins have nothing to do with food. But there is some connection between these types of foods and the dopamine system.

But a lot of us here think we are addicted to this or that type of food.

Anyway what i want to say to help you is if you can put aside the foods that cause you problem and try to make your diet full of healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables, proteins and what we like to call "good fats" there will be less room in your tummy and desire in your body for the foods that cause us problems.

I have quit sweets. But there are times when i try to start a diet that i can't do it. If you are in that phase, then that's difficult.

But i hope you are in the phase where you are ready to commit to healthy eating.

One idea that works for me is to think about what i'm eating on my diet in terms of this is the sort of food i plan to eat for the rest of my life. And because of that i have to make sure i like it but also i have to make sure that almost all of it is good quality nutritious food.

You might like to have a look at my blog food diary in the link below to see how i've gone about my diet which i've been on since beginning of january.

And you may see how i deal with stress and other problems because i think these things matter a lot too.

When you have time there is very useful and relevant information on a site called nutrition wonderland that will help you understand those feelings of food addiction. And given that understanding you may feel more committed to minimising those foods more successfully in your diet.

If your knowledge of nutrition is limited, you would do well to learn about it. I would recommend getting an actual book on nutrition from the library. A book on nutrition as opposed to a diet book because those books either have a very biased account or very general and limited detail.
