Trying to keep motivated.

Hi all, my name is Kelly and while I have lurked a little bit on this site this is my first post.

My story is kinda of long so bear with me. In 2008 I was happily married and had just had my second child. I weighed in at 162lbs. I decided that I wanted to be "a hot Army wife" before we left to live in Germany. I busted my butt at the gym for 3 and a half months before we left and was happy to weigh in at 137 the day we left. Once in Germany we didnt have child care and I quickly gained most of the weight back. In 2009 I got an IUD and ballooned up to 190.00 In Nov of 2010 my husband depolyed and from stress and all I went back and forth between 180 and 175. I ended up leaving germany in Dec of 2010 after seperating from my husband. In the last 3 years I have gained 20 lbs putting me at 212.....miserable. 2 weeks ago I decided enough. One of the huge things for me is putting my ex in his place. One of things he said to me that I will never forget, is " all you accomplished while I was deployed was sitting in your pjs and getting fat" I would love to be 50-60 lbs lighter when he comes to pick up our kids in June. So like I said 2 weeks ago I changed things up. I am eating between 1200-1500 calories a day and walking 5 times a week. The first week I lost 4 lbs! Than some how I gained 2 back. I need advise I guess.....someone at work told me today that walking wont be enough? Is that true? I dont have time for much more, being a single mom. Any help and or support would be great.

Hi Kelly!

Actually, diet alone is enough to get rid of fat. You burn calories all the time just by existing. Exercise is important for other things and it might become really important if you want to have a certain look. But at this point, don't stress about it. Just focus on the diet part. Read about it, learn and figure out what sort of diet works for you. It's not supposed to be just misery and then going back to eating comfort foods. Find foods that taste good and make you feel good, but are full of nutrients and don't trigger you into eating more. Doesn't really matter if you go low carb or low fat or any other diet variation that is out there. What matters is that it feels right for you so that you can keep at it.

Persistently making healthy choices, even small ones, can lead to huge success over time. If you try to do too much at once, you might risk failure and then you'd have to start again and again and soon June is here and you've just been bouncing back and forth. So just pick a course and start moving forward (as you have) and don't worry if others say that you're not doing enough. They've just been watching too much Biggest Loser :-) Just keep at it.

Incidentally, I just pasted a quote of something I read today over here to our 6 month goal thread, which has to do with who succeeds and who doesn't. You're welcome there, by the way :-)

Anyway, sounds like you've got the motivation part down :-) I actually can understand you on that one.

Welcome to 3FC - I hope you get the satisfaction of seeing your ex's jaw drop the next time he sees you. :)

Hi Kelly! :welcome: Walking is great! I don't know why someone told you it wouldn't be enough. Diet is the biggest factor in weight loss. Exercise is important for fitness. Good luck! I hope your ex eats his heart out when he sees how hot you become. lol!
