Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

  • Hi everyone. New to the board here obviously. I just wanted a place to go and vent when the dieting and exercise start getting to me. I had a meltdown today because my boyfriend went to Dunkin' Donuts this morning. He offered to get me anything, so I hopped on my computer to check calories on the menu. I ended up getting a small coffee with cream and no sugar and a dry english muffin. When the english muffin was a complete let down, I started crying. I got to work today and decided I needed some place to vent when I feel like giving up. Glad to find other out there who are in a similar place.

Oh yeah, I am doing this because I really feel super unhealthy, I am tired of feeling so fat I can't wear shorts/tank tops/ swimsuits, and I am tired of isolating myself and not being social because I feel like all people think is how fat I am. So, that is enough about me. I am looking forward to meeting some of you!
  • I'm so sorry that you're having a hard time.

It can be hard in the very beginning when you are just figuring things out. I'm assuming you're calorie counting (but I could be wrong!) since said you hopped on the computer to find the nutritional information.

You may start to notice that certain foods will fill you up, certain foods will make you hungrier, and other foods aren't worth eating if you don't like them. For me, a cup of 150 calorie soup or chili will fill me up for hours, while a 150 calorie plain English muffin will make me hungry within a short time (not to mention tastes better!)

    I encourage you to:
#1 - make a plan of exactly what you will eat in your entire day tomorrow down to the condiments (then do it again tomorrow, and the next day)
#2 - research different foods that you enjoy eating, and how to make them fit into your plan
#3 - get in your kitchen and prep

You can do this! Good luck
  • Sorry you had a tough time of it today. I agree with Munchy but also, it's ok to eat out and it's always a better choice to choose something a little higher in calories but mentally satisfying too. If you feel like you are deprived of great tasting food you are more likely to give up on your weight loss goals. No one wants bad tasting food. When I re-started my diet adventure I was frustrated because I like the taste of food and to me dieting always meant nasty tasting wheat cardboard food--blech! So I went to allrecipes.com and found some great recipes that use my favorite ingredients (tomatoes and chicken). I also go out to eat, but I make sure that I get something that tastes good and is low-calorie. Dunkin Donuts has an bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich that is low cal and definitely better than a nasty whole wheat muffin. Don't restrict yourself so much that you make yourself upset. You can achieve your goals without eating cardboard.

Chin up! You can do this!
  • It sounds like you feel deprived if you can't have the high calorie treats your BF has? Is that why the english muffin was a let down? If so, can you enlist your BF to help you by not telling you when he's going to that type of place and to not bring that type of stuff home at all? It's hard to lose weight if the people you live with don't help by not bringing the stuff into the house that trigger your cravings.
  • Good luck with your efforts!!
  • Welcome!
  • Welcome!! I read your intro and it sounded a lot like me. I am doing weight watchers and my kids and hubby were always asking me to go get them ice cream and I knew that I couldn't have it because it was so many calories. I decided I wasn't going to feel left out all the time, so I found lower point substitutions and it has been a HUGE help!!
    So glad you are here!!
