Talking Newbie here! I am going to give this weight loss thing a try AGAIN!

Hello everyone,
My name is Julie originally from Vancouver, Washington but currently living in San Diego, California. So I have been a chub almost my whole life, my highest weight being 223... I would love to Know what it feels like to be skinny, but my taste buds always always win me over. I went on a diet for a whole three months and lost 24 lbs and got down to 198!!!!! I was stoked I hadn't been in the 100's for about 6 years or more. Then I got horribly sick, fevers at 105 extreme lower back pain, headache, shivers like as if I was having a seizure... It was Bad. I was sick for about a month. Then it all went down hill from there, I got lazy I was in bed rest for almost a month and that made me lazy. It's been about three months Since i started eating like a pig again lol and stopped exercising. I am now at 209, and I feel depressed, how did I let myself do this again? Anyway I joined this group to find motivation, I hope I find it

My name is Julie, what's yours?

Welcome to the site, Julie! My name is Victoria, and I am so sorry that you fell ill so terribly. Hopefully you'll not only get lean, but you'll get fit, beautiful, and healthy this time around! I'm new to the site too, and everyone's been so nice to me lately!

Thumbs up Hi!

Hi Julie, I'm new to the site too. Congrats on deciding to get in better shape! I'm in the processes of getting "bikini ready" myself. . I used to be an irish step dancer and boy, does that ever melt the fat! I've started up again recently after about a 3 year break, during which I put on about 15 pounds. Sigh.. But we can do it!! just a tip, after trying all the fad diets.. dancing/jumprope is the fastest most effective method i have ever found to truly lose weight and feel great!

You all are so nice!!! Every comment made me smile, I sure hope I can do it. It's going to be a difficult journey because everyone in my household loves to eat!

Hey Julie, I'm Sohala (So-hey-luh).

I've been through the loop with losing and gaining weight back again. The hardest part is getting started but once you get in the groove it becomes easy!

Hi Sohala,
Getting started is the hardest part! Am I responding to these messages correctly or is there another way to respond?

I think you're responding to them correctly! I don't think there is an incorrect way to respond, haha.

How are you planning to get started? Is there any form of exercise that you like?

Well honestly I have no idea where to start, today I took a small walk just to kinda of get use to the idea. I want to do home work outs that really make me sweat. I was also thinking about doing the new fad "The 30 Day Squat Challenge" but I honestly don't think I am ready for that. Any Ideas?

Well, from personal experience the best thing to do is to try everything once. There are going to be certain things that you will really enjoy, and certain things that you absolutely cannot stand. As this is a lifestyle change, it's best to take baby steps. For example, I really enjoy the elliptical but I absolutely hate riding a bicycle. I'm not going to force myself to ride a bike when I obviously can't stand it. Are there any trails where you live? Hiking is a great form of exercise and I lost a lot of weight (the first time) hiking for a couple hours a day!

As far as at home work outs are concerned, I really enjoy the youtube videos by Zuzka Light. She really doesn't use any equipment (sometimes she has kettleballs or dumbbell weights) except her own body weight. Some of her work outs are really challenging, but the nice thing is you can modify them to make them easier for yourself. I'm actually going to try her time challenge tomorrow at the gym instead of using the elliptical.

Hi Julie, I'm Sunnie. I just joined yesterday and have found this to be a very positive place! I just started Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred and really like it, though I'm only on Level 1 and it's kicking my butt. This is a good thing though. =) Anyway, good luck to you!!

Some of the home work out videos look butt kicking >_<!!! But their results look amazing in comparison to the confusion one may have at the gym without a personal trainer. Plus, who wants to run on the elliptical all day? =P

This afternoon I went on a long walk, and tonight I am doing a home workout vid. Wish me luck! I don't want to spend money on the gym so I have to do all my workouts out home or outside
