160+
Hi...I've been looking for a group that DID NOT have surgery to lose weight.I belong to a Facebook group that is amazing but 99 percent of them have had surgery...so alot of stuff doesn't' apply to me. I changed my lifestyle 16 months ago,and have lost about 165 pounds. I have lost friendships over this and am constantly dealing with people's opinions about this. I really want to hit my goal of 150, another 27 pounds, but EVERYONE around me keep telling me that I've lost enough. I'm sick of fighting with everyone over it and am trying to find people who understand. And people that understand the every day struggle that we go through. This is not easy nor has any of it been easy. I just need people who understand the daily carp we go through.

Hello and welcome!
Congratulations on losing 165 pounds so far! That is quite an achievement! It is hard to deal with naysayers, and people who are not supportive. As long as your weight loss is healthy and your health is not suffering, you just need to try and keep strong and ignore them. You have come so far, it doesn't make sense to give up now! I hope you can find the strength and support you need here. We are all in the same boat! |
Hi former,
I am right there with you. I currently weigh 178 and my first goal is to make it down to 150. My end goal is to be 135. I also am 5'4''. The reason I weigh as much as I do today is my own fault. However, I come from a family of heavier people. Six years ago, I weighed 160 and lost 25 pounds. At 135, I felt great and was very happy. Then my family and close friends started saying that I looked anorexic, and that I needed to eat more. And so I did. Five years later I was 194 pounds. I am proud of you for losing 165 pounds!!! That's phenominal! I am more than happy to support you in your journey! |

You say you've lost friendships over this...what kind of person would reject you as a friend because you did something good for your health and well-being? Jealousy may be part of that. I think when people tell you they think you've lost enough some of them are actually just trying to deal with the "new you" and goodness knows a 160+ weight loss is a huge deal! I don't think your goal is unrealistic at all for someone 5'4". I'm 5'2" and 130 is a good weight for me. 177 lbs at 5'4" is still considered overweight according to most (if not all) BMI charts, so you're right in wanting to get lower, I think. Don't let others derail you...stick with it. It's your body, not theirs. |
Welcome! Amazing work! I have heard many others here say exactly what you have said. Their friends and family encouraged them to stop before they have reached goal. You have come to the right place. If you search older threads or start your own on this topic you will have lots of company. In some of these threads we speculated that it was the shock of the new look that caused all the commotion. Once people got used to it, the new body didn't seem too thin. Stay true to you. They will just have to adjust.
