Building a Winning Hand
I'm a firm believer that in this life we are all dealt our own individual hand. However, I also believe that this original hand does not have the "last say" in the outcome of our lives. I think that a better hand, a hand stacked with winning cards from the deck of life, can be build over time through perseverance and smart moves. Unfortunately, the original hand I was dealt was not a winning hand. It has been a problematic and vastly challenging hand of cards, and I've been playing them with very little success. For many years, I've been dealing with major troubles armed with just those losing cards. So today, I'm a battered, war-weary, hard-working 45 year old who is re-making her life. Yes, I finally decided that I needed and deserved a do-over. I have gone to great lengths to achieve this, such as achieving another graduate degree, changing careers, and moving to another state (away from all of the old card-dealers). One of the major problems I've been unable to leave behind or solve has been my relationship with food. I want...I need to conquer obesity and emotional/stress eating. I'm not naive enough to believe that reaching my goal weight will solve all of my problems. However, I need to achieve optimum health so that I'll be able to live long enough to enjoy a "winning hand" life. By joining the 3FC Forum, I'm attempting to reach out to people who understand my struggle. Hopefully through this shared understanding we can all draw strength and win the game of life.

Wow. So well said! Glad you are here! Welcome.

Wahoo! Here's to shuffling the deck and getting new cards! Good luck and I hope you get a full house!

Thank you Penmage for your welcome. I see that you're moving down the road of success. Congratulations! I pray that I'll be able to move toward my goals with the same kind of success you've achieved.

Thanks to all of you for your warm welcoming messages. You all are definitely achieving your goals. I have a long way to go. I'm trying not to focus on the very big number of pounds that I have to lose in order to reach my goal weight. Right now I'm just trying to lose the first 5lbs. And Katie, you're right I'm trying to unload my overly full caboose so that I can capture a "full house" and trade in some of the curves for a "straight." : > You guys have a good night and an even better day tomorrow.

Welcome and good luck on your journey!!!

Thanks Mozzy. I love your motto. I too am trying to focus on my weight loss in increments as well. I have over 100 pounds to lose, which is an overwhelming amount when looked at as a whole. As my old teacher used to say, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."
