new to group- looking for help staying focused
I am a 32 year old mother of two. I've lost 15 lbs so far but recently have just been gaining and losing the same 5 lbs. I want to lose 20 more lbs to get to a healthy goal weight. I know I'm having problems because there is a part of me that says "this weight is fine. This is good enough." But I don't really feel that way. I want to get to a healthy weight where I feel confident and happy with my body. I'm hoping I can do that with the help and inspiration from the people on this site.

Welcome and good luck on your journey!

Congrats on your loss so far! You can do this! And Welcome!
Motivation waxes and wanes. You have the awareness to know why you are stuck so that is a good start. Try to remember how good you feel when you're losing as compared to gaining. Set a small goal like maintaining that 5lbs loss instead of gaining it back. Don't think about 20lbs. That is too big. That is my thinking, anyway. |
Welcome chickie! I know exactly how you feel with the confusing self talk. On a few occasions, I have gotten close to my goal weight, convinced myself I was "good now" and then kind of dropped the ball.
The best advice I can give is to just break up the remaining weight you have to lose into small segments and see how you feel when you reach each stage. For example, tell yourself that you'll lose those next five pounds and if you don't like how you look when you get there, then you'll come back to where you will feel comfortable. This has worked really well for me in avoiding some foods I know will derail my plan. I just say, let me not eat that today and see how it affects my weight. I usually end up loosing which is the push I need to keep not eating some foods. I hope that will help and I'm sure you will find some great support on this board in your journey. |
Welcome!

Thank you for the encouraging words and advice. I am breaking the 20 lbs into smaller goals now. It is a lot less overwhelming to think about losing 5 lbs at a time. I already lost the 5 lbs that I kept gaining and losing so now I'm just focussed on maintaining and working on the next 5. This is a lot easier way of thinking about it! My biggest challenge is not binging in the evening. I've got some pretty good diet and exercise habits during the day but I have to keep working on breaking my nightly binging habit or it just negates all the hard work I put in earlier in the day. The motivational posts on here have helped give me a little more will power so far :)

Welcome to 3fc, I almost sold myself short and excepted my weight at one point, but I just felt it was not really where I wanted to be. I feel wonderful now and am so grateful I didn't chose to give up. Eventually your hard work will pay off. Best of luck
